The article discusses a study to identify and describe new species of the Panorpa (P.) scorpionfly found in Mexico. It notes that the first species P. pennyi was discovered in 1971 by Norman D. Penny of the University of Kansas during a trip in Hidalgo, while the second species, P. ultima was collected by the author from Michoacan in 1969. It references characteristics and morphometrics of the two specimens based on the collection of the Biodiversity Institute's Entomology Division at the University of Kansas. Research shows P. Pennyi as having a yellowish brown dorsum and a light brown pronotum, while P. ultima has a yellowish brown dorsal surface with a dark brown to black pronotum.

The article offers information on three species that have been added to the biodiversity of Mecoptera of Mexico in 2011. The Panorba accola is known to have dark yellowish brown and dorsum glossy head with two dark longitudinal stripes while its thorax is characterized by pronotum dark brown medially and metanotum black stripes at sides. The Panorpa michoacana possesses yellowish brown and glossy head except beneath eyes and around antennal bases while its wings are grayish brown. The Panorpa teziutlana's head features pale yellowish brown maxillary palps and light brown antennal scape.
