In many languages, the present perfect has grammaticalized, gradually displacing the preterit. Within Spanish, this has been documented with the grammaticalization of the present perfect in Peninsular Spanish. To examine this possibility in two Latin American varieties, this study examined present perfect/preterit variation of 36 speakers from Lima and Mexico City from the PRESEEA corpus. While Lima Spanish presented overall more present perfect than Mexico City Spanish, a similar internal constraint hierarchy is predictive of present perfect use in both speech communities. However, Lima Spanish demonstrated a change in progress toward an expansion of the preterit among younger speakers with the indeterminate temporal reference as locus of change. The findings suggest that present perfect grammaticalization may not always be the most common cross-linguistic pathway but rather is subject to source constraints, which may lead to another pathway in which the preterit expands at the expense of the present perfect. Currently, a significant portion of published research on online hate speech relies on existing textual corpora. However, when examining a specific context, there is a lack of preexisting datasets that include the particularities associated with various conditions (e.g., geographic and cultural). This issue is evident in the case of online anti-immigrant speech in Mexico, where available data to study this emergent and often overlooked phenomenon are scarce. In light of this situation, we propose a novel methodology wherein three domain experts annotate a certain number of texts related to the subject. We establish a precise control mechanism based on these annotations to evaluate non-expert annotators. The evaluation of the contributors is implemented in a custom annotation platform, enabling us to conduct a controlled crowdsourcing campaign and assess the reliability of the obtained data. Our results demonstrate that a combination of crowdsourced and expert data leads to iterative improvements, not only in the accuracy achieved by various machine learning classification models (reaching 0.8828) but also in the model's adaptation to the specific characteristics of hate speech in the Mexican Twittersphere context. In addition to these methodological innovations, the most significant contribution of our work is the creation of the first online Mexican anti-immigrant training corpus for machine-learning-based detection tasks. This work studies five manuscripts from the colonial period that are preserved in the National Library of Mexico. Firstly, it explores the concept of codex and its application in the Mesoamerican context, with the interest of locating the proposed documentary grouping criteria based on the remanence of indigenous record systems. Then comes the presentation of each of the copies that constitute the corpus, which includes a brief historical context as well as a select example of some of its graphic characteristics. Finally, the spatio-temporal location of the copies in the history of Mexican written culture is shown, and it concludes with some thoughts on the corpus addressed and the indigenous scriptural and iconographic manifestations in the colonial period. In this way, the purpose of the article is focused on presenting and describing five manuscripts as members of the corpus of Nahua codices held in the National Library of Mexico. The main objective of this article is to analyze the transgressive ex-votos of two Mexican artists, Alfredo Vilchis, and David Mecalco, to verify the constitution of the scenography and the materialization of humor effects. The central axis of the discussions lies in the concepts of tactics and resistance. The corpus comprises six ex-votos collected from the Mexico Ex-votos project database. The analyzes show that the way of mobilizing different scenographies is a trace of resistance; and that the themes and the way of approaching such themes indicate the emergence of tactics that are linked to the concept of transgression. Based on the assumptions and principles of Usage-based Theory (Bybee 2010 e Furtado da Cunha et al. 2013), in this article, we analyze the intercalation of Temporal Circumstantial Hypothatic Clauses in data from 54 interviews from the Corpus Sociolingüístico de la Ciudad de Mexico (CSCM), treating it as a category of prototypes. The 514 data reveal 13 types, among which the exemplary Auxiliary verb of periphrasis (Δ) Temporal (Δ) Main verb of periphrasis was considered the most prototypical case of intercalation of Temporal, based on high structural complexity, low token frequency and low productivity (frequency in type). We also realized that the most typical textualdiscursive function of intercalated clauses is guide/circumstantial orientation. From a cognitive point of view, the uses of intercalated clauses, from the prototype to the margin, are motivated by mechanisms that tend to reduce coding efforts, reflecting iconicity, markedness (Givón 1995, 2001) and expressiveness (Dubois and Votre 2012). This study aims to describe the use of Spanish grammatical loans with discursive function in the Otomi language using an onomasiological approach. Using data from traditional and life narratives, I formed a corpus composed of 13,617 words obtained from sixteen Otomi-Spanish bilingual collaborators that belong to the central Mexico Otomi variant (locality of San Andres Cuexcontitlan, State of Mexico). Here I show that some Spanish grammatical loans (conjugations and adverbs) can have a discursive function, especially metadiscursive (structural), and cognitive (logical connection). However, I found that loans with epistemic and evidential function have a low incidence in the corpus. This finding suggests that Otomi speakers may prefer using the native linguistic resources from Otomi to express evidential values since this language has grammatical elements that encode this type of information. This investigation revises the use of the narrative present in the materials of the PRESEEA corpus. Based on 54 sociolinguistic interviews, the convergence and divergence of this phenomenon's use is studied in the Spanish varieties from Santiago, Chile, and Mexico City. We attempt to study variation according to the individuals, economic factors and the presence of syntactic-discursive introductors before verbs, following the methodological guidelines of the Guía de estudios del presente narrativo en los corpus PRESEEA (Guerrero and Arriagada, 2017). In this way, we intend to answer two general questions: (a) why are there individuals who use the narrative present more than others and (b) what functions serve such resource within the narratives in sociolinguistic interviews. This article analyses the official memory of the violent and traumatic past during the presidencies of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in Argentina (2007-2015) and Felipe Calderón in Mexico (2006-2012). In methodological terms, this article adopts one of comparison by contrast, which seeks to shed light on specific characteristics of each particular case and show how said characteristics affect the process. The documental corpus used is composed of presidential speeches and official initiatives in relation to the recent past of these countries. The argument postulates that kirchnerismo kept a policy of a «duty to remember» in line with a political use of the polarising past, and panismo, in the tendency of the «right to forget», synchronised with a political use of the reconciliatory past. This article focuses on the international news flow regarding the execution of Maximilian, the Emperor of Mexico. The execution occurred in June 1867, but it received global attention only at the beginning of July when the news started to spread over the borders, via telegraph, and rapidly through the network of newspapers. The article concentrates on international news on Maximilian's execution between 5 and 20 July 1867. The aim of the study is both empirical and methodological. It explores the sentiments underlying the news about the execution and the regional differences in these sentiments on an empirical level. On a methodological level, the article investigates the strategies to analyze sentiments via newspaper corpora in a multilingual research setting. The study is based on optically recognized historical newspapers in three languages (German, Spanish and English), and four regions (Austria, Germany, Mexico, and the United States). Our analysis shows content variations in the corpora, mainly that news was framed differently in each studied region, indicating that the local perception of the event and political interests shaped the news. In our corpus, the Mexican press –published in the middle of a political crisis– tended towards a neutral stance, the Austrian and German papers mainly were negative, and the United States showed mixed sentiments on the incident.
