FIVE-factor model of personality , *PERSONALITY , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *STATISTICAL reliability - Abstract
Introduction: The Big-Five Inventory-2 is a recently developed instrument for the measurement of personality factors and facets, with good psychometric properties cross-culturally. We examined the validity of this test, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency in a Mexican sample. We also aimed to extract latent profiles in order to identify subgroups of individuals based on personality traits. Method: We recruited a two-wave non-probabilistic sample by way of chain referral through social networks. The BFI-2 (60-items version) was administered in the first wave, and the BFI-2-XS (15-items version) in the second wave. The Quality-of-Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire-Short Form was also administered. The baseline sample included 2,025 participants and the follow-up included 610. Results: Factor models of the BFI-2 and the BFI-2-XS evidenced satisfactory goodness-of-fit, reliability and nomological validity with demographics (e.g., higher negative emotionality in women) and with quality of life. We extracted five latent profiles from the BFI-2; those characterised by High Agreeableness/Low Open-mindedness, High Stability/Low Plasticity, and Average Stability/Plasticity, showed better quality of life. Conclusion: We recommend the use of facets, aiming to reduce measurement error. Further studies with more demographically balanced samples should be performed in order to test the replication of the latent profiles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCHOOLS , *BODY image , *EXTRAVERSION , *NEUROSES , *PUBLIC institutions , *HUMAN sexuality - Abstract
The objectives of this study were to identify the predictive level that personality dimensions have on the students Body Image, as well as their possible relationships, and to compare such variables according to the sex of the participants. The study population were students of three technical careers at a public educational institution in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The sample consisted of 567 students. The Body Shape Questionnaire was used to measure the Body Image. The Neo Personality Inventory Revised NEO FFI (reduced version of the NEO PI-R) was used to evaluate the personality. Regarding the results, a multiple linear regression analysis identified the predictive variables of the Body Image --unsatisfied--, the dimension of the personality called "Neuroticism" and the female sex. In addition, significant relationships were found between the dimensions of personality "Neuroticism", "Extroversion", "Kindness and Responsibility" with body image and significant differences in it according to sex. It is suggested that later studies include other characteristics that could explain the presence of Body Image dissatisfaction in adolescents and confirm the influence of the predictor variables identified. SELF regulation , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *DIET , *MEASURING instruments - Abstract
The lack of valid tools to measure variables related to healthy behaviors in Mexico has led the authors to adapt and validate the Grit Scale and the Treatment Self-Regulation Questionnaire (TSRQ) for diet into Mexican Spanish, and explore the relationship between grit and types of motivation towards healthy eating as evidence of validity. The Grit Scale and the TSRQ in Spanish were put to 353 adults from the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. The Grit Scale was composed of 12 items distributed into two factors (consistency of interest and perseverance of effort), and the TSRQ for diet was composed of 15 items distributed into three factors (autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, and amotivation). Results showed acceptable fit indices for the long and short versions of the Grit Scale, confirming its two-factor structure. In addition, acceptable fit indices were found for the TSRQ for diet, indicating the presence of three latent factors. Significant and positive relationships were found between grit and autonomous motivation, and negative relationships with controlled and amotivation. The analyses carried out indicated that the instruments administrated are valid and reliable tools for use in Mexico. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PERSONALITY questionnaires , *COLLEGE students , *NEUROTICISM , *GENDER , *BEHAVIOR , *NEUROSES , *DATING violence - Abstract
The gender-role attitudes in situations, concerning various fields, contribute significantly to our behavior, and acceptance or rejection of behaviors that we consider relevant or not at any given time. Our aim is to examine the development of gender-role attitudes in dating relationships of university students in Mexico and Argentina by adapting the GRAS/EARG scale. They involved a total of 2013 college students of both sexes aged between 17 and 26 years. They were provided with the questionnaire dating violence (CUVINO), the scale of gender-role attitudes (GRAS) and personality questionnaire EPQ-RA. The results show a two-dimensional structure on the scale of gender attitudes in both countries (transcendent and sexist attitudes), which correlated significantly with the factors of violence and abuse tolerance. Also, women are significantly sexist, and as for Mexico stands out for a larger share in both types of attitude. Moreover, results also exhibit that as age increases, growths the sexist attitude; a significant relation between an egalitarian attitude with neuroticism and psychoticism, and between sexist attitudes and compliance. Significant differences were found by gender in factors A, B, C, G, N, O, Q1 and Q2 from Cattell's 16 PF. A significant difference was also found in factor E by age and in factor Q4 by kind of university studies --public or private--. Significant differences were found in factors A, F and H and 6 and the variable about vote decision. From the Political Orientation and Participation Inventory (P/OP), a significant difference were found between sex and family 2; also were found significant differences in the families 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10 by age and were found significant differences in families 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 by type of university. Significant differences were found between families 3, 4 and 6 and the variable about vote decision. Positive correlation, --significant at level 0,01 (bilateral)--, were found between 16 FP's factor A and families 3, 8 and 9 from P/OP Inventory (r = .220, .233 and .207). Also was found a negative correlation, --significant at level 0,01 (bilateral)--, between factor C and family 5 (r = -.242), and between factor H and family 6 (r = -.217). This study presents the findings after the application of 16 PF and P/OP inventories during May, June and July 2005. Sample was 170 students, 81 women and 89 men, from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Iztapalapa (public) and Universidad Iberoamericana (private) in Mexico city. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
