Wastewater surveillance has been a tool for public health officials throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Universities established pandemic response committees to facilitate safe learning for students, faculty, and staff. These committees met to analyze both wastewater and clinical data to propose mitigation strategies to limit the spread of COVID-19. This paper reviews the initial efforts of utilizing campus data inclusive of wastewater surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 RNA concentrations, clinical case data from university response teams, and mitigation strategies from Grand Valley State University in West Michigan (population 21,648 students) and Oakland University in East Michigan (population 18,552 students) from November 2020 to April 2022. Wastewater positivity rates for both universities ranged from 32.8 to 46.8%. Peak viral signals for both universities directly corresponded to variant points of entry within the campus populations from 2021 to 2022. It was found that the organization of clinical case data and variability of wastewater testing data were large barriers for both universities to effectively understand disease dynamics within the university population. We review the initial efforts of onboarding wastewater surveillance and provide direction for structuring ongoing surveillance workflows and future epidemic response strategies based on those that led to reduced viral signals in campus wastewater. This article discusses the partnership between the library and the studio art faculty at Oakland University that led to the integration of information literacy instruction into the studio art curriculum. The author outlines the importance of information literacy to artistic practice and student success, and discusses the program of instruction and learning outcomes. Early assessment of student needs and the program's effectiveness, using both citation analysis and anecdotal feedback, reveals that the program has contributed to the maturation of student research and inquiry skills, and positively affected the relationship between the department and the library, and provides preliminary conclusions about undergraduate studio art information behaviors. The article presents a case study on the cross-media marketing campaign of the Oakland University (OU) in Rochester, Michigan for its summer class in 2012. It highlights the business objectives of the said activity and the different channels used by the university for its campaign including e-mails, personalized brochures, and text messages. Findings reveal the increase of summer classes by four percent in the said year.

Using college students to shelve library books in a university library has always presented a variety of problems. Attention spans are short; dedication to this repetitive task as well as socializing can be a problem for the average student. For the past 9 years, Oakland University's Kresge Library has employed a young man with autism to shelve their books and journals. It has been a positive experience for both the Library and the employee. This article presents information about the use of forums with experts as a way to teach sociolinguistics through online courses. One of the authors describes some of the learning activities for the online applied linguistics courses offered by Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. The teaching activities involve the use of forums with experts with students posing questions to the experts through asynchronous online forums. The students learned through their exposure to the experts, through the questions which they posed, and through their classmates' questions.

The faculty in the School of Business Administration at Oakland University identified the need to supplement the traditional business curriculum with a career and professional development program. To this end, it was decided to implement the "ACHIEVE" program to assist students with selecting a career that matches their interests and skill set, and ideally increase job placement in their chosen field. ACHIEVE consists of four zero credit courses - taken one per year during a student's undergraduate education. Each course consists of a collection of tasks such as attending a student organization meeting, networking with professionals and participating in a job fair. A student survey administered at the end of the first year served as one assessment tool that provided feedback to modify the program for the second year. Abstract: A novel device for obtaining pulling and holding forces for draw bead tooling on inclined binder surfaces has been developed. A mechanical design featuring two load cells, a male–female draw bead set, translation and rotation degrees of freedom, and a screw-driven clamping system has been incorporated into a standard tensile test machine. On a real time basis, pulling force, holding force, and draw-in displacement are downloaded directly into a PC for data processing. Results for the sheet metal materials considered confirm quantitatively that the binder angle significantly influences the draw bead pulling force. For example, for the materials, bead penetrations, and bead geometries studied, the pulling force at a 20° binder angle ranged from 55% to 96% of that corresponding to a 0° binder angle. The pulling force data are useful for the purpose of theoretical and numerical draw bead model calibration. The proposed experimental system, called the Oakland University Angle Draw Bead Simulation (OU-ADBS) test, represents a significant breakthrough in draw bead simulation technology due to its relatively low cost and clever design. Oakland University's Kresge Library first launched its Web site in 1996. The initial design and subsequent contributions were originally managed by a single Webmaster. In 2002, the library restructured its Web content creation and management to a distributed, collaborative method with the goal of increasing the amount, accuracy, and timeliness of the information available on the library Web site. The new model was successful, resulting in a significant increase in both the amount and timeliness of the information presented on the library Web site. The Applied Technology in Business program at Oakland University is an innovative program using a client/consultant relationship between academia and industry. The program creates a student-centered environment where student teams apply technology learned in class to business problems in partnership with corporate sponsors. Oakland University is located in Rochester, Michigan in the region of Oakland County. Oakland County, Michigan happens to be one of the wealthiest counties in America. This same county is home to one of the nation's most challenged inner cities, Pontiac, Michigan. Further Oakland County is adjacent to America's poorest big city, Detroit, Michigan. Both Pontiac and Detroit are comprised of minorities and suffer with the same economic, social, and racial ills that plague most urban areas. Consequently, student achievement continuously lags in these areas. Among the challenges are teacher recruitment and retention within these areas. Many teachers are not attracted to these areas for all the reasoned named and more. Unfortunately, of teachers manage to work in these environments, it is for an abbreviated period of time and often times the teachers are not met with success. The teachers remain until an opportunity in a suburban school district presents itself. This paper addresses the need for Oakland University to begin to prepare its prospective teachers to teach successfully within urban environments. The article presents information on the implementation of a quality initiative process successfully within a university culture. Some of the factors responsible for higher education to review its current productivity are: reduction in public funds received, competition for faculty and students, pressures from employers, the need for cost reductions, and increased tuition, and parking and residence hall fees. Quality system awards are the most frequently used tools in higher education quality initiatives. It offers a blueprint for assessing quality in higher education. The Schools of Education and Human Services at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, implemented a quality assessment process incorporating both the business practice of quality assurance and the academic values of higher education. It includes the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), which takes place on average every four years. The day-to-day operations of the school has become stable and productive following the 2000 NCATE accreditation and with firm plans to move to a new building.

To enhance the learning experiences of all students, today's academic librarians must engage in outreach efforts that move beyond the walls of the library. In the past year, Oakland University's Kresge Library has made significant inroads in developing outreach initiatives that provide needed services to previously underserved student populations, such as transfer students, multicultural groups, and on-campus residents. These programs have increased the library's visibility, enhanced its image among the university's students, faculty, and staff alike, and positioned it at the heart of teaching and learning on campus. The relationship between a business school and the local business community can be a mutually beneficial relationship. For the regional business school, building relationships with business executives can be a timely and difficult challenge, which can be compounded by the presence and influence of larger private and state schools. The School of Business Administration at Oakland University (Rochester, MI), faced with these challenges, devised a simple straight-forward process that overcame these challenges and successfully involved 35 local business executives in a mutually beneficial relationship with the School in a very short time.
