Abstract: The Baidarik block of the Dzavhan microcontinent (Central Asian Fold Belt) includes the Upper Archean Baidaragin gray-gneiss complex. Among gray plagiogneisses, there are metabasic bodies, which are probably relics of early volcanics. By composition, the metabasites are divided into three petrochemical groups, whose protoliths were tholeiitic basalts, Al-undepleted and Al-depleted basaltic komatiites. Only a few samples are similar in REE composition to these protoliths. We have found metabasites with crustal-contamination features. The unusual geochemical properties of the metabasites (LREE enrichment and Nb, Zr, and Ti depletion) are related to their metasomatism. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: According to geological, petrological, geochemical, and geochronological studies, the Haraa Gol terrane in the western Hentiyn Mts. is dominated by two rock assemblages of different ages, associated with the initiation and development of the island arcs and marginal spreading seas of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean. The Late Cambrian, Early Ordovician, and Middle Ordovician were marked by the effusion of basalt and basaltic andesite and the formation of gabbro and gabbro-dolerite in back-arc spreading basins. In the Late Silurian–Devonian, after a short pause, tectonomagmatic processes were activated, with the formation of differentiated island-arc volcanics, gabbro, and granitoids. Their absolute 40Ar–39Ar age is given in the paper. The model age of the T Nd(DM) protolith of the Haraa Gol igneous rocks corresponds to the composition of the Mesoproterozoic juvenile crust. Abstract: The lava sequence of the Alag-Zaar-Gol River catchment (southern Hövsgöl area, northern Mongolia) is an accretionary prism composed of metamorphosed basalt and, less often, andesite alternating with siliceous tuff. The protolith of metabasalts may have formed in island-arc or ocean-island environments, and andesites were, possibly, derived from ocean-island varieties. Volcanics of different types are found coexisting within the same thrust sheets, which may be due to thrusting in the course of postmagmatic tectonic events. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
