The article presents a study on the impact of coralline turfs' competitive exclusion on the restoration of the habitat-forming fucoid alga Hormosira banksii at effluent-affected sites at the Mornington Peninsula and Warrnambool in southeastern Victoria. For the study, researchers examined 15 quadrats in November 2005 in order to determine the association between coralline turf and Hormosira banksii. They found that the percentage of cover and number of Hormosira banksii were negatively associated with both the percentage cover and turf height of Carollina officinalis. They concluded that competive exclusion may restrict successful habitat restoration offered by Hormosira banksii.
