A recent study conducted at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, explored the resting-state functional MRI (fMRI) connectivity patterns of the posterior hypothalamus (pHTH) and the nucleus basalis of Meynert (NBM) in surgical patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE). The study found that patients with mTLE exhibited decreased functional connectivity in the pHTH and ipsiNBM compared to healthy controls. Additionally, the study revealed perturbed connectivity between the pHTH and frontoparietal regions, as well as other arousal regions.
