February 2019 will be long-remembered for the spell of exceptionally high temperatures late in the month, which resulted in the United Kingdom's highest recorded temperature for a winter month (21.2°C), as well as many local temperature records being broken on consecutive days. While daily maximum temperatures were exceptionally high, the clear skies meant that temperatures dropped sharply at night, and daily minimum temperatures were generally much closer to normal for the time of year. Nevertheless, minimum temperatures remained much higher with cloud cover across northwestern parts of the United Kingdom, and on 23 February, Achnagart (Highland) recorded a new UK daily minimum temperature record for February.
