This paper focuses on gender differences in occupational stress and burnout among male and female officers. A sample of 943 male officers and 157 female officers in a large metropolitan city in the New England area was first used to compare the levels of work-related stress and burnout. Second, separate male and female regression analyses were run to determine if there were any unique stressors for female officers. Results indicate that male and female officers reported very similar levels of occupational stress and burnout. Results of the separate multivariate analyses indicate that although there are many similar predictors of stress and burnout for male and female officers, slight differences did exist in the models lending support to the assertion that the female officers may experience unique stressors in the police organization. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
