The article describes a study which sought to assess and compare the survivability of Cryptosporidium parvum in calf housing facilities in New York City's Watershed Agriculture Program. Solar calf housing has been suggested as a best management practice (BMP) to control C. parvum. The study found that solar calf housing allowed contaminated calf manure to be isolated from the main barn manure and in a way decreased the number of viable oocysts entering the environment during field spreading.
