This study explores the life experiences and empowerment of five emblematic undocumented Mexican domestic workers in New York City (NYC). Employing identity as a conceptual framework, we delve into the intricate aspects of the participants' lives, utilizing narrative inquiry and feminist methodologies to analyze the dynamics between their performative identities and the prevailing ideologies concerning undocumented immigrants. The narratives unveil feelings of rejection and exclusion among the participants in NYC. Additionally, the focus is on their efforts to challenge societal norms, resist dominant ideologies, and devise strategies for resistance. All five participants express a sense of empowerment derived from their experiences, enabling them to reconstruct their past and present themselves as resilient, proactive individuals, activists, and proficient English speakers. Ultimately, the findings demonstrate how the participants assert their narrative identities, reclaiming their subjectivities and subverting patriarchal norms by transcending conventional societal roles. The article focuses on the mobilization carried out by tenants living in a rent-stabilized building in NYC's Lower East Side. Their action was a central part of a large and successful struggle against the landlord, blocking his continuous attempts at eviction. The main research question is: what are the reasons of the success of this action? In other words: what has tipped the balance in favor of the tenants in a conflict in which the landlord clearly had stronger economic, political and power resources? The article argues that this success was highly based on the intersection of three main elements: the specific resources of the tenants, the organizational resources of the territory and the institutional and legal configurations. Moreover, the study considers these three levels closely interconnected and mutually influencing each other. Based on the direct observation of the mobilization, on semi-structured interviews and on biographical sources, the article aims to contribute to the understanding of the multifaceted dimensions of the fight against evictions. The article also aims to contribute, theoretically and methodologically, to a relational and interactionist approach both for the study of social movements and of gentrification and to strength the dialogue between the two fields. This article looks at Todd Haynes' Wonderstruck and explores the ways in which New York, as a cinematic city, is reshaped in the film through the eyes of children. Given the rich intertextual links that can be traced in Wonderstruck, the article situates the cinematic New York alluded to by the film--the city of the late 20s and the 70s--as a metropolis characterised by alienation. The child's gaze, in its unregulated and sensorial way of looking at the world, is argued to transform this image of an alienated New York into a rehumanised version of the city. Drawing on textual analysis, the article contends that New York is thus mapped, both literal and metaphorically, as a living entity and a place defined by the subjective experience of its people. Woody Allen is one of the directors who have worked the most the city on his filmography. New York City is an icon that defines his work. In order to know what the image he has projected of New York is, his urban work has been analyzed in a transversal way. The process consisted of breaking down the feature films into sequences and selecting those fragments of New York urban content. These sequences were analyzed from various perspectives: visual, oral, and narrative. Last semester, I was lecturing, as a visiting scholar, at Parsons School of Design, New York, My stay was focused on the research, communication and rendering of the Urban landscape, by means of personal drawing, as well by researching in New York libraries, museums and archives. Trying to "see" this dynamic city from the Bronx to Long Island Beach, through my personal drawing was such a visually enriching experience. Expressing the atmosphere, light and form I experienced under the Brooklyn Broadway metro beams, in the heart of Brooklyn, was thrilling, intense and stirring. Today, after a few short months there, New York has become so different to my eyes. This article's fundamental objective is to contribute to the study of religiosity linked to migration. Put another way, it examines bow social actors live and practice religion in terms of the place and the spaces entailed in migration as a vital experience. Observing the experience of migration on migrant faith communities is of special interest, but this article particularly asks how the practice of religion occurs and creates transnational connections. It also asks how those connections not only harmonize social relations and create other spaces but also how they, on one hand, call into question the boundaries of the community itself, and on the other, challenge traditional concepts of community membership and belonging. We document the case of the celebration and worship of Santiago Apóstol (the Apostle James) in Chila de la Sal, in the in the region of Puebla, in the context of a community of international migrants whose main destination is New York City. The article also addresses community dilemmas posed by the transfer of Santiago Apóstol to New York for the patron saint's day. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
