Abstract

The article presents a brief historical sketch of the tabloid photographer Usher "Weegee" Fellig. Particular focus is given to his work in photographing images of violence in New York City, the popularity of his work related to celebrities, and his career as both an actor and still photographer for motion pictures. Several photographs taken by Weegee are presented of topics including the darkroom he kept in the trunk of his car, the gangster Dominick Didato, and a burning building.
