The article presents a study which analyzes nine genera and species of rhizocephala that were recorded from the off-shore waters in New Zealand. It examines the base differences between the European and New Zealand Parthenopea species using mitochondrial and nuclear gene sequences. Moreover, serial sections were made to the study the internal structures of the reproductive organs for the genera Thylacoplethus and Thompsonia.

The article presents a research on Rhizocephalans, with new records of species from New Zealand. An overview of the parasites which are famous for the parasitic castration of their hosts are presented, including a table showing records of Rhizocephala and their host data from New Zealand waters. The result of a study in 2007 reveals seven species from seven genera and four families infecting Decapoda, of which six are new records for the region. The Akentrogonida and Kentrogonida, which are both rhizocephalan suborders, are known from New Zealand waters. Details about the first rhezocephalans from chemosynthetic reducing habitat and the ongoing research of the National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA) are also provided.
