Background: Currently, industrial radiography (IR) is hugely unknown in Nigeria. This study aims to determine senior radiography students' awareness, attractors, and detractors of IR as a career. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used to survey 402 senior radiography undergraduates in selected Nigerian universities. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Of 402 respondents from seven universities, 221 (55%) were male and 181 (45%) were female; 207 (52%), 176 (44%), and 5% (19) students were in the 18–22, 23–27, and 28–32 years of age range, respectively. 34% and 66% of the samples were 400 and 500-level students, respectively. Three hundred and seventy students (93%) are aware of IR; 58% heard about IR in the classroom while 71% correctly defined IR. The association between students' affiliation and awareness about IR was strong (r = 0.638 and P = 0.0241). Improved remuneration (73%) was the major attractor to IR while students' desire to practice medical radiography and fear of ionizing radiation were the major detractors of IR. Most students (61%) prefer medical to IR (39% and P = 0.01). Conclusion: Awareness of IR as a career option was very high among senior radiography students in the surveyed Nigerian universities. While most of the surveyed senior radiography students in Nigeria described chances of getting improved remuneration as the basis for selecting IR as a career, they consider their desire to practice medical radiography as well as their fear of hazards associated with the use of ionizing radiation are major detractors to IR as a career pathway. Understanding the fundamental role anatomy education plays in medical training and taking into consideration the nascence of online education in Nigeria, this study evaluated the perceptions of medical and allied-health students toward online anatomy education both during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria and for the future. For this study, Google Form questionnaires were distributed via different social and academic platforms to medical and allied-health students in Nigeria between September 28 and December 17, 2020. A total of 954 students participated in the study and 947 valid responses were recorded. The results showed that 77.6% of the students had reported computer/IT skills and 12.1% admitted that they had never attended an online class. Interestingly, 60% of the respondents disapproved of online learning approaches as effective tools for instructions in the anatomical sciences. Majority of the students (84%) agreed that their performance in anatomy would have been better if the classes were face-to-face, while 55% found the online anatomy classes uninteresting. Furthermore, 91.5% agreed that anatomy educators needed advanced skills for online education, while 94.2% agreed that anatomy online teaching needs more advanced technology to be implemented in Nigeria. This study revealed an overall negative perception about the suitability and effectiveness of online anatomy education in Nigerian medical/health training. This study recommends further investigations into the challenges that were presented during online anatomy education at the peak of the pandemic. Background: Oxygen is a life-saving, essential medicine that is important for the treatment of many common childhood conditions. Improved oxygen systems can reduce childhood pneumonia mortality substantially. However, providing oxygen to children is challenging, especially in small hospitals with weak infrastructure and low human resource capacity.Methods/design: This trial will evaluate the implementation of improved oxygen systems at secondary-level hospitals in southwest Nigeria. The improved oxygen system includes: a standardised equipment package; training of clinical and technical staff; infrastructure support (including improved power supply); and quality improvement activities such as supportive supervision. Phase 1 will involve the introduction of pulse oximetry alone; phase 2 will involve the introduction of the full, improved oxygen system package. We have based the intervention design on a theory-based analysis of previous oxygen projects, and used quality improvement principles, evidence-based teaching methods, and behaviour-change strategies. We are using a stepped-wedge cluster randomised design with participating hospitals randomised to receive an improved oxygen system at 4-month steps (three hospitals per step). Our mixed-methods evaluation will evaluate effectiveness, impact, sustainability, process and fidelity. Our primary outcome measures are childhood pneumonia case fatality rate and inpatient neonatal mortality rate. Secondary outcome measures include a range of clinical, quality of care, technical, and health systems outcomes. The planned study duration is from 2015 to 2018.Discussion: Our study will provide quality evidence on the effectiveness of improved oxygen systems, and how to better implement and scale-up oxygen systems in resource-limited settings. Aim: To describe the process adopted to review the academic curriculum for training health information management professionals in Nigeria. Context: Health information management professionals are responsible for managing patients' health service records and hospital information systems across health facilities in Nigeria. An assessment found many are inadequately skilled in information and communications technology (ICT) skills believed to be needed for them to play leadership roles in hospital information systems and function effectively. This was traced to a dearth of relevant ICT courses in their academic training curriculum. Case study: A review of the curriculum for training health information management professionals was instituted following an agreed need to address these issues. Lessons learned: Health records management is evolving across the world including the developing countries. This advancement requires evolution of training programs to meet the increasing application of ICT in this sector. Conclusion: After several sessions, a new curriculum that addresses all the identified educational deficiencies has been developed. Background: The objective of this study is to explore and document perceptions and attitude associated with uptake of interventions to prevent malaria in pregnancy infection during pregnancy in Enugu State, Nigeria.Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in three local government areas in Enugu State to identify the people's perceptions and attitudes towards sleeping under insecticide-treated bednets and uptake of recommended doses of intermittent presumptive treatment during pregnancy. In-depth interview guides were employed to collect data from health workers and mothers who delivered within 6 months preceding the study, while focus group discussion guides were employed in collecting data from grandmothers and fathers of children born within 6 months preceding the study.Results: The people expressed fairly good knowledge of malaria, having lived in the malaria-endemic communities. However, some were ignorant on what should be done to prevent malaria in pregnancy. Those who were aware of the use of insecticide-treated bednets and intermittent presumptive treatment during pregnancy however lamented the attitude of the health workers, who make access to these interventions difficult.Conclusions: Efforts to prevent malaria in pregnancy should focus on providing health education to pregnant women and their partners, who reinforce what the women are told during antenatal care. The attitude of health workers towards patients, who need these interventions, should be targeted for change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
