Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (curtailed "COVID-19") is an enormous group of infection which causes sickness in creatures or people and later recognized in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. This examination was attempted to explore the knowledge, awareness, and practices towards COVID-19 among occupants in Nigeria during the fast ascent time of the COVID-19 episode. Methods: One thousand and eighty-six (1086) members who were of Nigerian origin, age 18 years or more who comprehended the substance of the banner took an interest in the examination. Depending on the writers' systems with neighborhood individuals living in Nigeria, a two-page enlistment banner was posted/reposted to groups in Whatsapp, twitter and, Facebook. This banner contained a short presentation on the background, objective, methodology, voluntary nature of participation, declarations of anonymity and privacy as well as the link speedy reaction code of the online questionnaire. Results: The outcomes indicated that after samples, majority of respondents ages were 30-50years (44.4%); 51.7% were males and 47.6% were females, and 15.3% of the total respondents from the 36 States in Nigeria, were Benue residents, with leading part of the respondent, 57.4% holding a Bachelor certificate, 23.7% postgraduates and 16% undergraduate. In light of information, majority of the respondents, 92.1% concurred that COVID-19 is a viral contamination, as respect, the method of transmission, lion's share of the respondent, 155(14.3%) concurred sneezing or coughing by infected persons are the major mode of transmission. Conclusion: Majority of the participants claimed that they frequently wash their hands (84.1%) and agreed that they usually employ the use of face masks (59.1%). 59.3% claimed that they took their immunity through diet and 46.5% of the participants preferredthe use of surgical mask. Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and behaviours of the first year students of a medical school on emergency contraception in Nicosia. Materials and Methods: The data of this cross-sectional study were collected in February 2016 by a questionnaire administered under observation Of the 467 first year students of the Medical School, 418 responded to the questionnaire, with a response rate of 89.5%. Results: Students were from 24 countries but the majority were from Turkey (58.0%), Nigeria (11.8%) and Northern Cyprus (8.2%). The correct knowledge of definition of emergency contraception (EC) level was 57.6% and 57.2% knew the purpose. There was a significant difference regarding knowledge of correct definitions of emergency contraception and emergency contraception pills among continental groups, with lowest level of knowledge for Asian country members. Of the total, only 33.9% of the participants had correct knowledge of effective timing for and 14.2% of the definition of emergency contraception pills. Excluding those who stated having no knowledge of emergency contraceptives and effective timing for EC, only 36.7% -for each concept- of the remaining participants claiming to be informed about these concepts, defined them correctly. The use of contraceptive methods was 49.5% and emergency contraception 23.1% among sexually active participants. Conclusions: The knowledge level and behaviours of medical students on emergency contraception were insufficient. AIM: Glaucoma is becoming an increasingly important public health problem and presents a greater public health challenge because the blindness it causes is irreversible. This study is aimed at assessing the knowledge and risk factors for glaucoma among adults in Oke-ose community, Kwara State in North- Cental Nigeria. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study which assessed the knowledge and risk factors for glaucoma among adults in a rural community of Kwara State. The respondents were selected using cluster sampling technique. Interviewer- administered semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 15. RESULTS: Less than half 94(47.0%) respondents were aware of glaucoma. Only 11(5.5%) respondents had some knowledge of symptoms and 18(9.0%) had knowledge of the risk factors. Socio-economic status, age of respondents and educational status and family history of glaucoma among the respondents significantly influenced the awareness and knowledge of the disease (p<0.05). Among the respondents, a total of 22(11.0%) and 37(18.5%) were diabetic and hypertensive respectively. Only five (2.5%) of respondents had high risk perception of glaucoma. CONCLUSION: The presence of risk factors for glaucoma coupled with the poor risk perception and poor knowledge of the disease require urgent community directed eye care interventions to reduce the devastating effects of glaucoma. AIM: Low level of knowledge and practice of exclusive breast feeding have been reported in Nigeria especially in rural communities. The purpose of this study is to identify factors contributing to low knowledge and practice of exclusive breast feeding (E B F) in rural communities of Abia State, Nigeria and apply health promotion intervention (H P I) to address these factors in order to increase knowledge and practice of E B F. METHOD: A quasi-experimental study design was used. Four communities formed the unit of allocation to experimental and control groups for the purpose of introducing health promotion intervention. A multi-stage sampling procedure was used in selecting the study sample. A sample size of 400 households out of 1978 enumerated from the four communities was used for the survey, two as experimental and two as control. Data were collected using a pretested structured questionnaire that was interviewer administered. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Chi-square and Mc Nemar statistic were used in determining statistical significance. Analysis of knowledge and practice of EBF was taken before and after H P I and compared in both experimental and control groups. RESULTS: The results indicated increase in knowledge of E B F from 28(14%) to 200(98.5%). Correspondingly, practice of E B F increased from 21 (10%) to 162(80%) in the experimental group. No significant increase was made in the control group both in knowledge and practice of EBF. Factors contributing to low level of practice of EBF in the study area included low level of knowledge about ten steps to successful breast feeding, illusory fears about EBF, ignorance, resistance to change, cultural imperatives and medical reasons. Health promotion intervention directed at the rural women helped to scale up the practice of EBF to 70% within nine months. CONCLUSION: The study recommends health promotion intervention as a proven method for scaling up knowledge and practice of EBF in rural communities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AIM: Studies on psychological profile of patients with low back pain (LBP) in Nigeria is scarce. This study investigated the proportion of psychological distress, the relationship between psychological distress and each of pain intensity, functional disability and recurrence in Nigerian patients with LBP. METHOD: A total of 125 consecutive patients with LBP from selected out-patient physiotherapy departments participated in this study. The General Health Questionnaire (SF-12), Roland Morris low back-pain and disability questionnaire, and box numerical scale were used to assess psychological distress, functional disability and pain intensity respectively. RESULTS: 19% of the patients reported evidence of psychological distress. There was no significant relationship between psychological distress and each of pain intensity(r=0.098; p=0.279) and recurrence of low back pain. (r=0.16; p=0.859) respectively. However a significant direct relationship was found between psychological distress and functional disability (r=0.291; p=0.001). Psychological distress was also seen to be a predictor of level of functional disability accounting for 8.2% of the variance. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that psychological distress may affect functional outcomes of patients with LBP. Therefore psychological distress should be taken into consideration in the assessment and management of patients with LBP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
