Bupleurum L. genus (Apiaceae) comprises about 200 species. These species are common in the Northern Hemisphere, Eurasia and North Africa. In Turkey, there are 47 taxa, including 21 endemics. Bupleurum species are commonly used traditionally due to anti-inflammatory and antiseptic activities. However, the roots of some Bupleurum species are used in Chinese traditional medicine alone or in combination for colds, infections, inflammation due to malaria, hepatitis and cancer. In this present work, essential oils (EOs) of the endemic species Bupleurum lophocarpum and B. heldreichii were obtained by hydrodistillation and chemical compositions were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Germacrene D (25.4%), β-phellandrene (14.4%), α-pinene (8.4%), β-caryophyllene (6.0%), hexadecanoic acid (3.9%) and undecane (3.6%) were determined as the major components of the EO of B. lophocarpum. As main constituents for B. heldreichii EO were found as germacrene D (29.0%), phytol (7.5%), spathulenol (5.6%), pentacosane (5.1%), bicyclogermacrene (4.5%) and hexadecanoic acid (4.0%).
