The article presents a study which investigates an outbreak of type A botulism involving four horses in northern California that ate grass clippings found from a near park in September 2010. It states that the four animals acquire a progressive flaccid paralysis syndrome clinically consistent with exposure to Clostridium botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT). It notes that the necropsy findings of the animals show extensive edema in areas of the nuchal ligament and inguinal fascia.
