Abstract

The authors comment on a study published in a previous issue which assessed long-term mortality and end-stage renal disease in a type 1 diabetes (T1D) population in Norway diagnosed at age 15-29 years. Topics covered include the impact of psychological disorders on mortality in patients with T1D, the high mortality related to alcohol abuse, violence, and suicide observed by the study, and T1D patients at increased risk of depression, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders.
