1. STONE SUPPLY AN URGENT PROBLEM FOR INUIT CARVERS.

The article reports on the need of carving supply to Inuit carvers from Labrador, which was addressed in the meeting held in Ottawa, Ontario in June 1993. Carvers stressed the stone supply problem in several communities which was described as critical and urgent for practical assistance. Inuit artists need assistance to locate sites for mining the stone with safe practices and efficient equipment, and transport the stones to various communities. In addition, Inuit encourages Nunavut to assist them in preventing mass production of imitation of Inuit art and to support local artists' associations to achieve a strong voice.
