Objective: To look for QTc changes associated with Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors and factors related to these changes among patients suffering from cancer. Study Design: Comparative cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Oncology Department, CMH Rawalpindi Pakistan from Dec 2020 to Apr 2021. Methodology: The study included one hundred and eighty patients with solid or haematological malignancies taking Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors for more than three months. They underwent 12 lead ECGs inside the oncology department. QTc interval was calculated on the ECG of all the patients, and they were evaluated for the presence of prolonged QT interval. Age, gender, duration of Tyrosine Kinase inhibitor use and presence of comorbid illness were correlated with the presence of QTc changes in our study participants. Results: Out of 180 cancer patients using Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors for more than three months included in the study, 96 (53.3%) were male, while 84 (46.7%) were female. One hundred and eighteen (65.5%) had normal QTc intervals, while 62 (34.5%) had prolonged QTc intervals in our study participants. Chi square test revealed that the advanced age of the patient and prolonged use of Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors was statistically significantly associated with QTc prolongation in our study (p-value<0.001). Conclusion: Significant number of cancer patients using Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors had prolonged QTc intervals in our study. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic (US) treatment on chemical characteristics and antioxidant potential of pulps obtained from eight mango varieties indigenous to Pakistan. There was a significant (p < 0.05) effect of varieties and US treatment on chemical characteristics i.e. pH, acidity, TSS, vitamin C contents, total sugars (%), reducing sugars (%) and non-reducing sugars (%). Microstructure evaluation of pulp from all mango varieties showed deshaped middle lamella and cell wall of cells after 8 min of US treatment. At 4 min of US treatment as per shaped cell wall and middle lamella, the chemical characteristics and antioxidant potential were higher. The total phenolics (TP), flavonoids (TF) and total antioxidant activity (TAA) of pulp from most varieties increased significantly (p < 0.05) after US treatment for 4 min but decreased successively after each treatment i.e. 8 and 12 min. The maximum value (314.17 μg AAE/mL pulp) of DPPH was shown by pulp from Dosehri and the minimum (158.67 μg AAE/mL pulp) was found in pulp from Langra before US treatment. The DPPH values of pulp from most of the varieties increased significantly (p < 0.05) after US treatment for 4 min but decreased successively after each treatment but pulp from Langra showed increasing trend after 8 min of US treatment which decreased after 12 min of treatment. The total anthocyanin (TA) values of pulp from Chaunsa, Dosehri, Sindhri, Gulab Khas and Langra increased abruptly after US treatment for 4 min but decreased successively after subsequent treatment. The pulp from Desi, Anwar Ratol, Gulab Khas and Langra showed an abrupt decrease in TA after 8 min of US treatment. An increasing trend of values of total carotenoids (TC) was shown by pulp from all mango varieties after 4 min of US treatment but decreasing trend was observed with subsequent increase in time of US treatment. Objective: To investigate the dependency on feeding gastrostomy tubes in patients with head and neck cancers treated with radiotherapy alone or concurrent chemo-radiotherapy. Study Design: Retrospective longitudinal study. Place and Duration of Study: Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi and Shaukat Khanum Hospital, Peshawar Pakistan, from Jan and Jul 2022. Methodology: A total of 115 patients with head and neck cancers having no baseline dysphagia and having gastrostomy tubes were included. All had received an equivalent of 60 greys in 30 fractions or more of radiotherapy. Their swallowing was evaluated weekly during radiotherapy and then every 4-6 weeks on post-treatment follow-up. The total time duration of patient dependency on feeding gastrostomy tube after treatment completion was noted for each head and neck cancer subsite. Results: Of a total of 115 patients, 49(43%) of the patients had nasopharyngeal cancers, 22(19%) had laryngeal, 29(24%) oral cavity, 7(6%) hypopharyngeal and 9(8%) had cervical esophageal cancers. Proportion retaining gastrostomy tube for more than six months of treatment was 8.7% (median duration of retention was five months) with hypopharyngeal, nasopharyngeal, oral cavity, and laryngeal cancer were 14%, 9%, 9% and 5%, respectively. Conclusion: The proportion of patients with head and neck cancers requiring more than six months of a gastrostomy tube is 5-14%. Baseline assessment of swallowing and nutrition and prophylactic feeding gastrostomy can avoid treatment interruptions. The aim of this study was to find the difference between the perceptions of students of public and private universities regarding relationship of personal factors (comprising four sub-factors (personal competency, participation in university activities, personal efforts for improvement, personal willingness) and epistemological access. A survey was held with undergraduate students of eight universities (4 public & 4 private) in Pakistan. Multistage sampling technique was used to select the sample that targeted 1600 under-graduate students of 6th semester from two faculties (Information and Technology, and Business School) of 8 universities (4 private and 4 public) situated in the province of Punjab and Islamabad (Capital Territory) in Pakistan. The data were collected through a self-constructed questionnaire during the academic session 'Fall 2018-2019.' Data was recorded on SPSS and treated statistically; after confirmatory factor analysis, one-way ANOVA was conducted to find the difference between perceptions of students of public and private universities across 5 factors stated above. The results showed that significant difference existed between perceptions regarding provision of epistemological access among four out of five factors. In three cases (personal competency, participation in university activities and personal willingness for improvement) the perceptions of private students were better than the students of public universities, whereas, the public university students' perceptions were better in personal efforts for improvement. It was deduced from the results of Pearson correlation that there existed a positive relationship among the mentioned constructs--personal competency, personal effort for improvement, and epistemological access. Eremias Fitzinger, 1834 is a speciose Eurasian genus of true lizards with approximately 40 species. Eremias species occurring in Pakistan have never been examined before using molecular genetics. In the present study, six out of seven morphologically defined taxa distributed in Pakistan (E. acutirostris, E. aporosceles, E. cholistanica, E. kakari, E. persica, and E. scripta) were studied using mitochondrial (16S rRNA, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, cytochrome b) and nuclear (Rag1) genes. Data of 29 individuals were included in phylogenies using ENA/GenBank sequences. With a maximum of 20 species per analyzed data set, this study represents the most complete phylogeny of the genus to date. Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses were run for concatenated (3,528 bp) and single‐locus data sets and supported by uncorrected p distance calculations to evaluate the phylogenetic placement and divergence of Pakistani taxa. Among the Pakistani taxa, we detected six mostly well‐supported and deeply divergent clades (A‐F) differing by uncorrected p distances of up to 23.8% for mtDNA (cytb) and 3.3% for the nuclear Rag1 locus. Despite morphological differences between E. aporosceles and E. acutirostris (both clade A), no unambiguous genetic support was found for these two taxa. Therefore, we regard E. aporosceles as a synonym of E. acutirostris. On the other hand, E. persica was found to represent a species complex with deeply diverged clades (E and F) in Pakistan. Eremias cholistanica (clade D) and E. kakari (clade B), two morphologically defined endemic taxa of Pakistan, were revealed as phylogenetically clearly distinct. Eremias scripta (clade C) from Pakistan was found to be genetically deeply divergent compared to sequences of this taxon from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Our study provides evidence that the current taxonomy of Eremias does neither reflect the genetic diversity nor the evolutionary history of the genus, necessitating a comprehensive integrative taxonomic revision of the whole genus. Workplace incivility is a common issue experienced by employees around the globe. However, studies observing and interpreting cultural variation in workplace incivility across multiple countries are quite limited. Drawing from the stressors–emotion model, we aimed to investigate how perceived workplace incivility leads to next-day instigated incivility toward coworkers via increased negative affect (NA) at the end of the workday between Chinese and Pakistani employees. Data were collected through snowballing from 100 Chinese and 115 Pakistani employees over 10 consecutive workdays. We found that perceived incivility enhanced one’s after-work negative affect, which led to increased instigated incivility the next morning. Moreover, a higher level of self-regulation mitigates the relationship between perceived incivility and after-work negative affect. The higher level of state-mindfulness mitigates the relationship between after-work negative affect and instigated incivility the next morning. Although the first path of mediation was not significant among Chinese, there was a significant moderating effect on this relationship in both groups. In addition, this effect was weaker among Chinese than among Pakistanis. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed, along with limitations and a future research agenda. Studies on dietary habits and niche overlap of sympatric carnivore species can be vital for their conservation. They can reveal the potential level of inter-specific competition and prey species overlap, thus highlighting species specific conservation requirements. We investigated diet composition of two such sympatric carnivore species Asiatic jackal Canis aureus and the Kashmir hill fox Vulpes vulpes grifithii in and around Pir Lasura National Park, in northeastern Himalayan region of Pakistan by using fecal analysis after confirming the carnivore species by genetic analyses. The scats of the two carnivores were collected during four different seasons of the year and analyzed in the laboratory. Results revealed sixteen prey species in the diet of Asiatic jackal and 21 species in the diet of the Kashmir hill fox. For Asiatic jackal, wild prey contributed approximately 18%, whereas 60% of the diet comprised of domestic prey. For Kashmir hill fox, the wild prey consumption was approximately 18%, while consumption of domestic prey was 51% and plants contributed 28%. Niche breadth of the Asiatic jackal was broader (0.78) compared to Kashmir hill fox (0.31). Niche overlap between these two sympatric carnivores was found to be a rather high 0.81. The Indian bush rat, Golunda ellioti, is indigenous to the Indo-Pak subcontinent. Food habits of this bush rat were investigated using its stomach and fecal contents. Trapping was conducted every month from November 2013 to February 2016. This over 28 months generated a total of 2520 trapping nights. Sample slides from 82 stomach and 10 fecal samples were compared with the reference slides. Field observations along with feeding the Indian bush rat in captivity revealed that it preferably fed on 27 species of grasses with Digitaria sanguinalis [frequency of occurrence (FO) = 13.5%] being the most abundant one followed by Pennisetum orientale (FO = 8.5%). However, the Berger-Parker index revealed that D. sanguinalis (d = 0.148) was followed by Triticum aestivum (d = 0.145). Along with that, they also consumed tillers and seeds of wheat, gram seeds and young leaves of mustard. Objective: To determine the diagnostic value of red blood cell distribution width and red cell distribution width index in differentiating iron deficiency anaemia and beta-thalassemia trait. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Dec 2021 to Feb 2022. Methodology: A study population of 110 children with an age limit of 1.5-7 years who reported low haemoglobin was subjected to serum iron and ferritin levels with further evaluation of red cell count, blood morphology, and comparison of mean corpuscular volume. Red cell distribution width was taken from the lab report, whereas Red blood cell distribution width index value was computed for the samples. Results: A total of 110 patients were enrolled in the study. Seventy-five (68.18%) participants were diagnosed with IDA, 26(23.63%) participants were the candidate of PTT. Nine participants were suffering from anaemia of variable etiologies such as chronic ailment and sideroblastic, etc. PTT patients presented with higher RBC counts with a mean of 5.71±1.2 x1012 /l (6.8-8.5 x1012 /l) when compared to IDA participants who deciphered values of 3.5±0.5 (2.6-4.3 x1012 /l). Mean MCV in PTT was 52.2±2.7(50.1-56.8) whereas for IDA were 72.5±1.2(61.2-78.3). In IDA low serum ferritin was recorded 4.02±1.1(2.2-9.2) as compared to mean values of PTT patients. Conclusion: Red cell distribution width index and Red blood cell distribution width are authentic variables and inexpensive modalities in differentiating between iron deficiency anaemia and beta-thalassemia trait with reliability. Neuroendocrine breast carcinoma (NEBC) is histologically a rare type of invasive breast cancer. It constitutes only 0.2-0.5% of all invasive breast cancers. In this case series, we are presenting five cases having primary neuroendocrine breast cancers that had been reported at a high-volume cancer centre in Pakistan. In this study, neuroendocrine breast cancer patients at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Peshawar were evaluated. We had retrospectively collected information on demographic characteristics of our patients, physical examination, radiological findings, surgical procedures with their outcomes, histopathological and immuno-histochemical characteristics, systemic adjuvant/neoadjuvant therapy and follow-up. Objective: To study the role of Hydroxyurea in patients suffering from P-thalassemia major. Study Design: Prospective longitudinal study. Place and Duration of Study: Department Paediatrics, Combined Military Hospital, Malir Cantt, Karachi Pakistan, from Nov 2019 to Oct 2020. Methodology: Data from 73 beta-thalassemia major patients was collected using a structured questionnaire containing inquiries about basic socio-demographic details, disease history, laboratory reports and particulars of former treatment regimens. Hydroxyurea was administered, and its effects were noted among the subjects regarding the frequency of transfusion, haemoglobin levels and severity of clinical symptoms. Results: The mean age of study subjects was 9.15±3.99 years, and most study subjects (56.14%) were boys. The preintervention (before administration of Hydroxyurea) levels of Hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and serum ferritin levels were unremarkable when compared to postintervention levels. However, a significant difference was observed in HbF levels. In addition, an encouraging decrease was reported in the self-rated severity (using VAS) of symptoms such as fatigue (p<0.05), weakness (p>0.05), and shortness of breath (p>0.05). In addition, the transfusion interval was significantly reduced (p<0.05). Conclusion: After carefully considering the results, it can be concluded that Hydroxyurea plays a positive role and brings about significant improvement among patients suffering from P-thalassemia major. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the factors associated with adverse effects in elderly women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. Study Design: Comparative Cross-sectional Study. Place and Duration of Study: Oncology Department, Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Dec 2020 to Nov 2021. Methodology: This study was conducted on 145 female patients (>65 years) with breast cancer who were taking chemotherapy of any type and had undergone one cycle. All the study participants underwent detailed clinical evaluation by a consultant oncologist to assess the presence of various adverse effects of chemotherapy. In addition, the association of Anthracycline use, >3 months of treatment, low haemoglobin at baseline and abnormal liver functions at baseline were studied with adverse effects in the study participants. Results: The final analysis included one hundred fortyfive elderly female patients with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy. The mean age of the patients was 69.731±8.794 years. 89(61.4%) patients had no adverse effects, while 56(38.6%) had one or more adverse effects during chemotherapy. Anaemia 26(17.9%) was the commonest adverse effect, followed by fatigue 18(12.4%) and abnormal liver function tests 18(12.4%). It was revealed that the use of Anthracyclinebased chemotherapy and long duration of chemotherapy were statistically significantly associated with adverse effects (p-value<0.05) in our study participants. Conclusion: Considerable number of elderly patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy showed the presence of adverse effects. Objective: To analyze the presence of osteoporosis and osteopenia in post-menopausal breast cancer patients receiving hormonal therapy. Study Design: Comparative Cross-sectional Study. Place and Duration of Study: Oncology Department, Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Dec 2020 to May 2021. Methodology: This study was conducted on 200 post-menopausal female breast cancer patients who had been taking Aromatase inhibitors for more than six months. All the study participants underwent a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan to measure bone mineral density. As a result, they were classified as having osteoporosis or osteopenia based on bone mineral density. In addition, age, duration of therapy, tumour stage and molecular subtypes of breast cancer were correlated with the presence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in the study participants. Results: A total of 200 post-menopausal patients with breast cancer using hormonal therapy for more than six months were included in the final analysis. The mean age of the patients was 56.331 ± 6.744 years. In addition, 55 (22.5%) patients had normal bone mineral density, 92 (46%) had osteopenia, while 53 (26.5%) had osteoporosis on a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan. Molecular subtypes of the tumour, the advancing age of patients and the long duration of hormonal therapy were statistically significantly associated with the presence of osteopenia/osteoporosis (p-value <0.05) in our study participants. Conclusion: Considerable number of post-menopausal patients with advanced breast cancer taking hormonal therapy showed the presence of osteopenia and osteoporosis. Arthropods can be either large or too small to be seen from the microscope. Their legs are jointed and perform a specific function in the soil. Several arthropods have been identified to date. Therefore, it is essential to identify them in a different type of soil. An experiment to quantify the soil arthropods in the urban forests of D.G. Khan was conducted at the Zoology lab of Ghazi University on four tree plants, i.e., neem (Azadirachta indica), mango (Mangifera indica), guava (Psidium guajava), and phalsa (Grewia asiatica). Soil samples were taken from different areas and on different months. The diversity of arthropods was analyzed through the Shannon index. The results were all significant. The total number of arthropods found in the experiment was 5151, with the following distributions: millipedes were 132 in neem, 133 in guava, 113 in mango, and 121 in phalsa; centipedes were 136 in neem, 142 in guava, 118 in mango, and 132 in phalsa; springtails were 138 in neem, 130 in guava, 120 in mango, and 134 in phalsa. There were a total of 12 different species of arthropods found. Neem (Azadirachta indica) have mites, centipede, and ants; guava (Psidium guajava) have centipedes and ants. Mango (Mangifera indica) have millipedes, centipedes, mites, springtail, and ants, and phalsa (Grewia asiatica) have mites, ants, and centipedes. The study reveals that millipedes, centipedes, springtails, and ants were found abundantly in the urban forest area of D.G. Khan, resulting in increased organic matter decomposition and appropriate distribution of nutrients through the soil having beneficial effects on the terrestrial ecosystem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To determine the impact of hirsutism on quality of life (QoL) using Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) in female patients. Patients and Methods: An observational study was carried out at the Department of Dermatology, King Edward Medical University/ Mayo Hospital, Lahore from March 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012. A total of 200 female patients suffering from hirsutism, of any severity, with age 16 years or above who themselves were able to understand and fill the DLQI questionnaire in Urdu version, were enrolled in our study. Using the DLQI questionnaire consisting of ten questions, patients were asked to score on a scale from 0-3 for each of ten items. The data were analyzed after compiling the results. The higher the DLQI score, the poorer was the QoL. Results: Mean age of the patients was 26.12±5.83 years. Mean DLQI score of all patients was 17.9±5.78. The findings indicated several areas where hirsutism had an impact on individual's QoL, particularly in relation to symptoms and feelings, daily activities and personal relationships. Patients with moderate hirsutism and severe hirsutism had mean DLQI score of 18.2±5.57 and 17.88±5.74 respectively. Mean DLQI scores were highest for Q2 (symptoms and feelings). Conclusion Hirsutism causes a 'very large effect' on patients' quality of life. Impairment of QoL is greater in female patients irrespective of marital status and severity (either moderate or severe) of hirsutism. Longer duration of disease leads to poorer quality of life. The study aimed to find out the association between self-care behaviors and glycemic control in older Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in Multan, Pakistan. Data were collected from respondents registered in the Diabetic Clinic of Nishtar College and Hospital Multan from October 2018 to November 2018 through a self-administrative questionnaire. The simple random sample method was used, and a total of 154 Type 2 patients were selected randomly. The inclusion criteria were (a) respondents having Type 2 diabetes at least 6 months prior; (b) respondents being 60 years of age or above; (c) respondents registered in hospital diabetic clinic and (d) respondents belonging to low-income families having monthly income less than PKR 15000. The exclusion criteria were respondents having any physical disability and being dependent on others in physical movement and Type 1 diabetes mellitus patients. Descriptive and simple binary logistic regression was used to analyze the data through SPSS. The results of the study showed that mean glycemic control of respondents was (HbA1c, 8.47%), and only 48 (31.2%) respondents had better glycemic control. The respondent's level of education, Body Mass Index, hypertension, comorbidities, knowledge about diabetes and self-care behaviors (exercise, monitor glucose, medicine adherence, and diet plan) were significantly associated with glycemic level (P <.05). Bivariate logistic regression showed respondents, who performed self-care behaviors (to exercise daily 30 minutes, to monitor glucose two times in a week, regular medicine adherence, and to manage diet plan daily) had better glycemic control. The study concluded that few older Type 2 patients managed their better glycemic control in low economic status. The doctors and educationists must provide Type 2 self-care guidelines to older patients so that they may manage their glycemic control better and reduce the diabetes-related complications and treatment costs in Pakistan. This study aims to explore the historical background and current state of affairs regarding all aspects of "Public Library Bagh-Langey Khan, Multan". This library was started as a reading room by the Multan Book Society in 1850 to provide reading space for to the general public in 1886. Name of this reading room was changed into "Public Library Bagh-Langey Khan" and got registered under Public societies' act 1860. The library possesses a rich collection of 55,000 titles including more than 200 manuscripts and a number of rare books. It is a symbol of educational and cultural heritage of ancient city of Multan. For the purpose of collecting the data the interview technique was utilized in order to explore the issues, problems, challenges and opportunities for future development. On the basis of SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunities, threats) analysis the study attempted to identify the problems, challenges and prospects and provides the suggestions to promote the usage and to improve its image in the community. Performance of monoculture and mixed cropping of non-traditional legumes with oats cereal was evaluated at National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad, Pakistan under rainfed conditions of Pothowar. Three nontraditional winter legumes i.e. common vetch (Vicia sativa L.), medics (Medicago polymorpha L.) and senji (Melilotus indica L.) were sown during first week of November, 2007 at recommended seed rates in pure stands and ratio of 50:50 of each in mixed cropping with oats (Avena sativa L.). The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications and plot size was 6 x 3 m2. Nitrogen fertilizer @ 80 kg and phosphorus @ 57 kg per hectare were incorporated in soil at the time of seedbed preparation. The results revealed that oats - vetch mixture produced 16 and 18 percent higher green fodder yield compared with oats - medics and oats - senji mixtures, respectively. In pure stands maximum green fodder yield was obtained from oats crop which was 51, 66 and 80 percent higher than vetch, medics and senji legumes, respectively. This increase in green fodder yield of oats cereal is the result of more efficient utilization of natural resources by Poaceae family plants than the Fabaceae family producing more tillers, number of leaves and plant height. The analysis of soil after final harvest showed more organic matter in vetch plots followed by oats - vetch mixture and lowest in pure oats crop. This showed opposite response of plants belonging to Poaceae and Fabaceae families indicating the need of mixed cropping of these plants to harvest the higher biomass and maintain soil fertility. Background: Trachoma is a sight-threatening process triggered by infection of the conjunctiva with Chlamydiae. When this infection becomes chronic and is associated with poverty it triggers trachoma, the prime cause of infectious blindness in the world. Since the 1958 report indicating that the highest incidence of trachoma in Pakistan was found in the province of Punjab, no new trials have been published. In the present study, we assessed the prevalence of trachoma in 3968 children living in 11 rural villages in the district of Attock, Punjab, Pakistan. The children with trachoma were sampled to detect C. trachomatis by PCR. Methods: Children in rural villages in the district of Attock were examined for trachoma in February 2004. Samples were obtained by scraping, and DNA was extracted (MagnaPure-LC Robot) and amplified to detect C. trachomatis (Amplicor-Roche). The quality of sampling was assessed by quantifying the number of cells by real-time PCR. Results: The prevalence of trachoma was 3.7% (0 to 6.2%). PCR was positive in 20% of samples from trachomatous children and the number of cells was always >100/sample. The income levels, illiteracy, use of latrines, water supply, and the presence of animals close to dwellings were similar in all the villages. In Sujjenda, the prevalence was doubled in the warmest season. Conclusions: Trachoma was diagnosed in 3.7% of the children aged <10 years. The low rates for positive PCR may be due to loss of the plasmid, the involvement of other Chlamydiae, or their absence in chronic infections. Tunnel farming is getting popular in the farmer's community of Pakistan due to the possibility of growing off-season vegetable crops with high yield in a controlled environment. In the current study, the development and validation of IoT system consisting of monitoring and control units were carried out for controlling the environmental factors in tunnel farming. Three tunnels were set for monitoring the environmental factors using temperature, humidity and soil moisture sensors. Two of three tunnels were fit with control units of exhaust fans and air heaters and a water pump for controlling the temperature and soil moisture. During the testing and validation of the system, temperatures recorded through DHT-21 sensor and thermometer in tunnel 1, 2 and 3 had strong correlations of 0.9986, 0.998 and 0.9978 respectively. Similarly, strong correlations of 0.9987, 0.9994 and 0.998 were found for RH (%) measured through DHT-21 sensor and RH meter for tunnel 1, 2 and 3 respectively. For soil moisture measurement, similar correlations were observed for resistive soil moisture sensor and oven dry method. Objective: To assess the predictors associated with mortality within 8 weeks in patients undergoing endoscopic N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate treatment. Study Design: Prospective comparative study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Gastroenterology, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore Pakistan, from Mar 2018 to Mar 2019. Methodology: A total of 106 patients of gastric variceal bleed were enrolled in the study. Tissue glue was injected into the varix endoscopically and mortality within 8 weeks after endoscopic intervention was noted. Results: Among the enrolled patients, 65 (61.3%) were male and 41(38.7%) were female. Mortality was noted in 19 (17.9%) patients within 8 weeks after endoscopic therapy. Chi-square analysis showed creatinine >1.5, Child Pugh score >9, MELD score >18, re-bleeding within 7 days, low blood pressure <90/60 at presentation and hepatic encephalopathy as significant predictors of mortality (p<0.005). Conclusion: Cirrhotic patients undergoing endoscopic injection of gastric varix with N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate after gastric variceal bleed have high risk of death within 8 weeks. Increasing fuel prices in international market and depletion of fossil fuel resources are reasons to find new and cheap energy resources to meet increasing energy demands throughout the world. Potential energy resources include wind, solar, geothermal, tidal and biomass. Biomass can be collected from wheat, rice and sugarcane fields. Sugarcane is most abundant cultivated crop in world providing trash (leaves and tops) and baggas as renewable energy resource for power generation which can replace 50% use of fossil fuels. Because of poor sugarcane mechanization status in Pakistan, traditional practice to get rid of this extraneous material is to burn the trash in standing crop or by manual means which is hectic due to decreasing labour availability for agricultural practices. 20-30% trash is delivered to mill along with stalk due to poor cleaning efficiency resulting deduction in farmer payment and lowering mill sugar recovery efficiency. Sugarcane stripping machine was developed for small scale farmers and different mechanical and crop physical factors were investigated to improve trash recovery and to reduce labour dependence and in field burning practice on local farms during 2018-2019 at University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The investigating crop physical factors included crop varieties (V1=US-658, V2=HSF-240, V3=CPF-249), moisture content in trash (MC1=8.2, MC2=17.6) and mechanical factors included velocity ratio between intake rollers (VR1=1.3, VR2=1.7, VR3=1.9), cleaning element speeds (CE1=660 rpm, CE2=763 rpm, CE3= 1033 rpm) and intake roller combinations types (C1, C2, C3). Three replications for each factor were recorded and data was statistically analyzed under factorial design. Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is a major food legume which ranks third in the world. Wilt and blight, two damaging diseases of chickpea, are prevalent in Pakistan, and this has resulted in a low output of the crop. Except for exploiting the host plant's resistance mechanism, the available control techniques are neither practicable nor cost-effective. To determine the sources of resistance in chickpea germplasm that is currently available.278chickpea genotypes (168 Desi and 110 Kabuli) originated from different springs were evaluated for disease resistance against Ascochyta rabiei in poly house and 102 different genotypes were screened for Fusarium oxysporum resistant sources in the sick field at Arid Zone Research Institute Bhakkar. Experiments were laid out following augmented design without replications during 2019-20 and highly susceptible check (AUG-424) was replicated as indicator for disease advent. The disease frequency was assessed twice at different growth stages and genotypes were categorized as per ICARDA rating scale (1-9). Ascochyta blight incidences revealed that39 lines displayed resistant (R) reaction and 12 had moderately resistant reaction (MR) in desi. However, 38 were found resistant and 26 genotypes were recorded as moderately resistant in kabuli chickpea, respectively. Similarly, 102 genotypes were sown in sick plot for screening against F. oxysporum, out of which only10 entries showed resistant and 21 moderately resistant reaction. The collected information was the most valuable to be used in breeding program for exploiting the genetic resistance and its direct use in severely blight and wilt hit areas may be preferred on the basis of resistance type. This study was carried out to analyze the phytochemical profile of Euphorbia prostrata Aiton through GC-MS and identification of possible antifungal, antibacterial and other pesticidal compounds through literature survey. Whole plant material of the weed was collected from Lahore, Pakistan and shade dried followed by two-week extraction in ethyl acetate. The filtrates were analyzed by GC-MS that showed the presence of 19 compounds. The major compound in the extract was 9,19-cyclolanost-24-en-3-ol, (3β)- (24.62%) followed by 9,19-cyclolanostan-3-ol, 24-methylene-, (3β)- (19.51%) and γ-sitosterol (12.51%). Other compounds were phytol (8.11%), n-hexadecanoic acid (6.15%), 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid, (Z,Z,Z)- (4.90%), neophytadiene (4.88%), cyclohexane, 1,3,5-triphenyl- (3.71%), hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester (3.04%), phenol, 2,2'-methylenebis[6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-methyl- (2.42%), octadecanoic acid, ethyl ester (2.24%), octacosane (2.11%), 1-heptacosanol (1.71%), stigmasta-5,24(28)-dien-3-ol, (3β,24Z)- (1.71%), 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid, ethyl ester, (Z,Z,Z)- (1.29%), oxirane, hexadecyl- (1.21), 9,12- octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)- (1.05%), Z-8-methyl-9-tetradecenoic acid (1.01%), and 9-octadecyne (0.76%). Purpose: To assess the adherence of cardiologists to JNC7 and the impact of pharmacists in reducing clinical inertia by managing high blood pressure in the cardiology out-patient department of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Methods: This was a pre- and post-interventional prospective study in which data was abstracted from patients’ history notes or prescription of selected patients at baseline and follow-up visits by applying a reliable tool. The data were abstracted again from the same patients to evaluate the cardiologists’ adherence with the same parameters after 2,4 and 6 months. The sample size for this study was 116 patients and descriptive statistics were used for categorical variables. For the comparison of cardiologist’s adherence to JNC7, means and paired ‘t’ test were used at the level of 0.05 significance. Results: At baseline, the mean overall percentage of cardiologists’ adherence to JNC7 was 46.7 ± 18.9 %. This significantly improved to 98.8 ± 6.0 % after 2 months of the pharmacist intervening by way of discussions with cardiologists. The cardiologists’ adherence was further improved to 100 % after 4 and 6 months. Conclusion: Improvement in cardiologists’ adherence to JNC 7 guidelines and involvement of the pharmacist enhance the documentation of BP goal, lifestyle modifications and uncontrolled BP. Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are essential devices used for the efficient performance of modern power systems and many developing countries lack these devices. Due to the non-existence of these advanced technologies, the national grid remains weak and vulnerable to power stability issues that can jeopardize system stability. This study proposes novel research to solve issues of an evolving national grid through the installation of FACTS devices. FACTS devices play a crucial role in minimizing active power losses while managing reactive power flows to keep the voltages within their respective limits. Due to the high costs of FACTS, optimization must be done to discover optimal locations as well as ratings of these devices. However, due to the nonlinearity, it is a challenging task to find the optimal locations and appropriate sizes of these devices. Shunt VARs Compensators (SVCs) and Thyristor-Controlled Series Compensators (TCSCs) are the two FACTS devices considered for the study. Optimal locations for SVCs and TCSCs are determined by Voltage Collapse Proximity Index (VCPI) and Line Stability Index ( L mn ), respectively. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is employed to find the ideal rating for FACTS devices to minimize the system operating cost (cost due to active power loss and capital cost of FACTS devices). This technique is applied to IEEE (14 and 30) bus systems. Moreover, reliable operation of the electricity grid through the placement of FACTS for developing countries has also been analysed; Pakistan being a developing country has been selected as a case study. The planning problem has been solved for the present as well as for the forecasted power system. Consequently, in the current national network, 6.21% and 6.71% reduction in active and reactive power losses have been observed, respectively. Moreover, voltage profiles have been improved significantly. Increased edible oil demand due to increasing world population diverts the attention to explore the new agro-ecology zones for soybean cultivation where traditional oilseed crops have low yield potential. Present study was conducted to determine the optimal agronomic yield environment for soybean cultivars in semi-arid irrigated conditions. The randomized complete block design (RCBD) was used with split-plot arrangement with four replications. Three soybean varieties viz., NARC-2, RAWAL-1 and AJMERI were sown on 11th August, 26th August and 10th September 2018-19 at Agronomic Research Area, College of Agriculture, University of Sargodha, Pakistan by keeping varieties in sub-plots and sowing dates in main plots. Data was statistically analyzed by using Fisher's analysis of variance technique and treatment means were compared at 5% probability level. Maximum and statistically similar germination count was recorded in plots where crop was sown on 11th August and 10th September as compared to 26th August planting. Flower initiation, 50% flowering, complete flowering and pod formation took place earlier in cultivar AJMERI when it was sown on 10th September. Maximum number of branches per plant (10.66) and number of pods per plant (40.96) was produced in cultivar RAWAL-1 when it was sown on 10th September. The maximum number of seeds per pod (2.63) was recorded in all tested cultivars sown at 10th September. Cultivar RAWAL-1 produced maximum biological yield (3175.9 kg/ha) and final seed yield (785.03 kg/ha) that was sown on 10th September. Conservation of large carnivores in protected areas with high human use or habitation is challenging due to ecological, political and socioeconomic factors. Understanding underlying patterns of human--carnivore interactions is vital for their conservation. We investigated patterns and costs of livestock depredations by common leopards Panthera pardus in and near Pir Lasura National Park, Pakistan, using standardized questionnaires to collect data from 133 respondents during 2014-2015. Respondents lost 209 animals to leopard attacks, primarily goats (78.5%), followed by dogs (11%). Most leopard depredations of livestock occurred during the day, with almost 60% occurring during 9:00-11:00 h and 14:00-16:00 h. Greatest numbers of livestock killed was during May-July (60.9%) followed by December (9%). Most attacks occurred when livestock were not guarded (48.9%) and fewest when guarded by humans and dogs (2.3%). Most livestock depredations occurred in larger herds of ≥ 20 animals (58%). Respondent's perceptions of leopards were negative, with most (79.7%) stating their unwillingness to conserve leopards. Eight leopards were reportedly killed in retaliation to livestock. Livestock depredations by leopards represented almost 9% of the annual income of respondents. Our study provides several insights to mitigate human leopard conflict including use of humans and dogs to guard livestock during times of peak vulnerability (e.g. late morning and during summer, May-July). Further, improved corrals could reduce access to livestock by leopards and local communities should be aware of more effective corral designs. Reducing livestock depredations and corresponding economic losses could improve perceptions of local communities and promote tolerance towards leopards, reducing retaliatory killing and facilitating coexistence. Objective: To evaluate the impact of adjuvant Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF) therapy in neonatal sepsis. Study Design: Quasi-experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Combined Military Hospital, Lahore Pakistan, Mar 2019 to Mar 2020. Methodology: Thirty neonates (15 cases and 15 controls) were randomly selected for this study. The Interventional Group was given GM-CSF and standard-of-care treatment; the Control Group only received standard care. Both groups were followed for the primary outcome (i.e., discharge or death). Secondary outcomes included the effects of GM-CSF on haematological parameters of neonatal sepsis. Results: The mean gestational age of the children was 33.46±2.47 weeks. In the Interventional-Group, 56.7% of the neonates were discharged with the resolution of the sepsis. There was no significant difference concerning the secondary outcome, but the mortality was higher in the neonates among the Control-Group (p-value>0.05). Conclusion: Our study showed no difference in mortality between the Interventional and the Control Groups. The GM-CSF therapy could be used as an adjuvant therapy in neonates with neonatal sepsis to increase the total leukocyte and absolute neutrophil counts. Objective: To determine the relationship of baseline quantitative BCR ABL1 gene percentage and therapeutic response i.e. Early Molecular Response (EMR) at 3 months with first generation Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (Imatinib) in patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) in chronic phase (CP) Study Design: Prospective observational study. Place and Duration of Study: Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Rawalpindi, Pakistan from Oct 2017 to Oct 2019. Methodology: One hundred and seventy patients, 18 years of age or older with newly diagnosed Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) in chronic phase (CP) with quantitative baseline BCR-ABL (IS) transcript were included in the study. All enrolled patients were placed on Imatinib therapy (400 mg/day) and Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for BCR ABL transcript was repeated at 3 months to document EMR (BCR-ABL (IS) <10%). Patients who were in accelerated/blast phase, or already taking any Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKI) or chemotherapy were excluded from the study Results: In our study 101 (59.4%) patients achieved early molecular response. Out of these 80 (70.8%) patients with BCR-ABL<50% at baseline value showed early molecular response. However, only 21 (36.8%) with BCRABL >50% at baseline achieved early molecular response (p-value <0.001). Conclusion: A significant number of patients achieved early molecular response with Imatinib therapy that had BCR ABL below 50%, however those with baseline BCR ABL >50%, the rate of EMR was comparatively lower. Background: Leprosy disease in the community is usually mistaken as a cursed disease. Leprosy disease is a chronic granulomatous infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae. Quality of life in leprosy patients with neuropathic pain in every region is varied. Objective: To determine the quality of life in leprosy patients with neuropathic pain by using the SALSA Scale and VAS. Methods: The research used analytic observational, a cross-sectional design and an interview technic. 37 subjects of 19 to 59 years age had leprosy with neuropathic pain at Donorojo Hospital. Results: SALSA score explains that 62.2% of the research subject has limitation of activity and has a correlation with leprosy disease with p 0.012. There is no correlation between VAS score and leprosy disease with p 0.034. SALSA score and VAS score in this research explain there is no correlation with p 0.458. The number of other medical conditions with limitation activity has a correlation score of 0.870 which has a very good correlation power. The number of used tools with limitation activity has a correlation score of 0.716 which has a good correlation power. Conclusion: There is activity limitation in leprosy patients with neuropathic pain at Donorojo Hospital Jepara District. Citrus is one of the most commonly used as a fruit in Pakistan. To estimate their elemental profile citrus were collected from five different tehsils of Sargodha district. Elemental analysis was carried out by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. There results showed that citrus fruits have riched source of minerals and have highest concentrations of Cu (2.71 mg/Kg), Mn (0.1633 mg/Kg) and Zn (31.72 mg/Kg) noted in T1 (Silanwali), while the maximum concentrations of Mg (65.247 mg/Kg), Cr (0.343 mg/Kg), P (1.146 mg/Kg), Co (0.536 mg/Kg), K (133.01 mg/Kg) were found in T2 (Sahiwal), T4 (Kotmomin) and T5 (Bhehra), respectively. Objective: To compare the efficacy of Alfacalcidol (I.V) and Paricalcitol (I.V) for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in hemodialysis patients. Material and Methods: An open-label randomized clinical trial was carried out to compare the efficacy of intravenous paricalcitol and alfacalcidol. We recruited 80 patients with end-stage renal disease receiving maintenance hemodialysis in a tertiary care hospital dialysis unit. The participants were randomly divided into two groups. A wash-out period of one week was decided for each patient in whom he/she did not receive any medication for the treatment of hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, or secondary hyperparathyroidism. Afterward, patients received an expanding dosage of alfacalcidol or paricalcitol for a time of about four months, and then after a further washout period of one week, each group received opposite treatment (paricalcitol or alfacalcidol) for a further four months (16 weeks). Results: The analyzed data for the same end-points revealed no difference between the two groups. No significant statistical difference in terms of calcium levels in both groups was noted. The study also found no big difference in the ability of both drugs to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism, while keeping serum phosphate and calcium levels inside the desired range. The study also found no distinction in the frequency of hypercalcemia and hyperphosphatemia as a side effect of Vitamin D analogue's treatment. Conclusion: The study concludes that alfacalcidol and paricalcitol are equally effective in the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in the dialysis population. Since Paricalcitol is expensive as compared to alfacalcidol, in an economically challenged country like Pakistan, Alfacalcidol can be a better choice when treating SHPT as we did not find any gross difference in the ability of two drugs to restrict SHPT. Introduction: Resistant strains of bacteria are rapidly emerging with increasing inappropriate use of antibiotics rendering them less efficacious. Self-purchasing of antibiotics particularly for viral infections is a key driver of inappropriate use, especially in lower- and middle-income countries. There is a particular issue in countries such as Pakistan. Consequently, there is a need to assess current rates of self-purchasing especially for reserve antibiotics to guide future policies. Aims: Assess the extent of current antibiotic sales without a prescription in urban areas of Pakistan. Methodology: A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted in different areas of Punjab, Pakistan using Simulated Client technique. The investigators demanded different predefined antibiotics from WHO AWaRe groups without prescription. Three levels of demand were used to convince the pharmacy staff in order to dispense the antibiotic without a prescription. A data collection form was completed by simulated clients within 15 min of each visit. Results: Overall 353 pharmacies and medical stores were visited out of which 96.9% pharmacies and medical stores dispensed antibiotics without demanding a prescription (82.7% at demand level 1 and 14.2% at demand level 2), with only 3.1% of pharmacies refusing to dispense antibiotics. The most frequently dispensed antibiotic was ciprofloxacin (22.1%). Surprisingly, even the reserve group antibiotics were also dispensed without a prescription. In only 25.2% visits, pharmacy staff guided patients about the use of antibiotics, and in only 11.0% pharmacists enquired about other medication history. Conclusion: Currently, antibiotics are easily acquired without a legitimate prescription in Pakistan. There is a need for strict adherence to regulations combined with a multi-dimensional approach to enhance appropriate dispensing of antibiotics and limit any dispensing of WHO restricted antibiotics without a prescription. Climate change, water shortage, and costlier inputs are main issues in sugarcane productivity across sugarcane growing areas of the country. Sugarcane is a valuable cash crop and rewarding sector of agriculture. Varietal development process depends upon selection of successive clonal generations; among these preliminary yield trial (Nursery-III) is fourth selection stage. Thirty four (34) clones were tested in three sets using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replication during 2017-18 at research farm of Sugarcane Research Institute, Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad, Pakistan. The clones were evaluated using five basic biometric parameters keeping in view the farmer's and miller's demand. The genetic variability and performance of all clones was checked by using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Among all 34 clones, 16 clones were promoted into next selection stage while taking HSF-240 and SPF-245 as check varieties. The clones S2015-SL-10, S2015-SL-89, S2015-SL-101 and S2015-SL-624 produced sugar yield more than 13 tons per hectare. These clones may give future hope for current varietal development program subject to showing good performance in next selection stages because further selection stages will decide the fate of suchclones. The promising clones among these may be selected as candidate variety for approval after evaluating their performance in farmer's field trials and under national trials in different sugarcane growing areas of the country. The variety identification assists the imperative goals such as alleviating legal claims and indorsing intellectual property rights and maintenance of genetic purity. The study was undertaken to appraise sugarcane clones for morphological physical characteristics for their use in breeding program, selection, identification and seed production. Experiment consisting of nine clones was sown at experimental area, Sugarcane Research Institute, AARI, Faisalabad during 2017 and 2018. The trial was replicated thrice. Data were documented on morphological features at ten months’ age of crop. There were important differences among the clones for stalk height, cane diameter, leaf blade width and leaf length. The growth habit of S-2008-FD-25 was erect and others were semi erect. Maximum height of 455 cm was seen in S-2009-SA-8. Maximum number of leaves per plant was observed in S-2008-AUS-133. Leaf colour of all clones was green and semi erect attitude. Spines were present on sheath of S-2008-AUS-134 only. The shape of dewlap of all clones were deltoid. Splits were present in S-2005-US-54, S-2011-FD-18 and M-2238-89. Bud grooves on internodes were present on S-2011-SL-62 and PSR-97-41. The internodes were of cylindrical shape. Flowering was absent in all the clones. The morphological descriptors presented for identification of the nine sugarcane clones are twenty-eight, that are distinctive and can be used for proof of identity, variety selection breeding and commercial seed production. Developing high yielding safflower cultivars with good adaptation to diverse environmental conditions can improve production in terms of seed yield and reduce the deficiency in edible oil. The genetic variability that exists among and within populations for desirable agronomic traits can be used to develop elite cultivars. A total of 94 safflower accessions from 26 different countries were used in this study to evaluate morphoagronomic performance, determine the pattern of similarity centers, and identify the best performing accessions by conducting 2 field experiments in Pakistan and Turkey using augmented design. Genetic diversity for important yield and yield traits was described including capitulum diameter (17.30 to 28.30 mm), branches per plant (5.10 to 17.30), capitula per plant (8.70 to 80.40), and seed yield per plant (4.86 to 51.02 g). These analyses showed a good level of variation in the current study. Using principal component analysis, it was observed that days to flower initiation, days to 50% flowering, days to flower completion, seed yield per plant, capitula per plant, branches per plant, seeds per capitulum, and capitulum diameter were the major contributors to the observed genetic variability in the evaluated safflower panel. Seed yield per plant reflected a significant and positive correlation with capitula per plant, branches per plant, and capitulum diameter, and these traits can be suggested as a selection criterion in safflower breeding programs. The hierarchical clustering was in agreement with the patterns of 7 similarity centers based on seed yield per plant, capitula per plant, capitulum diameter, and branches per plant. The process of adopting modern mechanized technological ideals encompasses certain aspects such as demographic characteristics, economic stability and societal acceptance regarding advanced methods of farming. The core objective of this research was to explore the role of socio-economic impediments in usage of modern mechanized technological ideals in agriculture sector of district Lodhran, Punjab- Pakistan. The present research was descriptive in nature and structured interview schedule was used to collect the data. A total of 200 small and large-scale farmers were selected through multi-stage sampling technique. Results revealed that 80% of the farmers do not adopt modern technological ideals due to economic instability, 35% of farmers reported that no person came into their area for guiding and training them regarding modern machinery and 62.5% stated that there were cultural barriers behind not coming of trainers. This study concluded that farmers perceived modern mechanism more beneficial for their fields, but socio-economic impediments were playing vital role in hindering the adoption of modern mechanized ideals. Eruptive vellus hair cysts are rare benign tumors of pilosebaceous unit with vellus hairs, which appear in childhood or young adults. Their etio-pathogenesis is poorly known. A review of the literature shows that eruptive vellus hair cysts (EVHC) might be inherited as autosomal dominant or acquired, and might be associated with other genodermatoses like pachyonychia congenita and anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. Although it is a benign tumor of pilosebaceous unit, this condition is rather difficult to treat. Here we report a case of 23 years old female with multiple, asymptomatic, slate-grey to bluish papules on face and ears for last 5 years, with a positive family history of similar lesions in other siblings. Vultures are crucial components of ecosystems as they perform important ecological and aesthetic functions. They provide sanitation services by feeding on carcasses, which would otherwise decay and possibly become a source of disease affecting the health of other animals. In the last few decades, populations have declined drastically, mainly due to the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac used in India, Pakistan, and Nepal. In the current study, we investigated the abundance of vultures inhabiting Pir Lasura National Park in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, from September 2015 to August 2016. We recorded three vulture species, including near-threatened Himalayan Griffons (Gyps himalayensis), endangered Egyptian Vultures (Neophron percnopterus) and critically endangered White-rumped Vultures (Gyps bengalensis), distributed across elevations ranging from 560–1530 masl. The Himalayan Griffons were the most common in the surveyed region (n = 128 individuals), followed by White-rumped Vultures (n = 48 individuals), and Egyptian Vultures (n = 41 individuals). Mean numbers of birds at roosts ranged from 7–20 for Himalayan Griffons, 14–26 for Egyptian Vultures, and 15–23 for White-rumped Vultures. We also identified a previously unknown roost of White-rumped Vultures that could be a potentially important area of conservation focus given the decline of this species in Pakistan. Perceived norms attached to public transport travel significantly reinforce mobility inequalities. Such mobility inequalities contribute to social exclusion, particularly among vulnerable groups such as older adults. Thus, understanding the antecedents of older adults' social exclusion behaviour is vital in advancing knowledge and promoting social sustainability. We proposed an integrated model and included 384 older adults from diverse socio-demographic backgrounds in Pakistan, examining the impact of social and personal norms of public transport use on social exclusion. Results revealed that social norms of public transport use played an essential role in shaping older adults' social exclusion directly and indirectly via personal norms. Perceived accessibility further moderated the effect of social and personal norms on social exclusion. The antecedents of personal norms (i.e., awareness of consequences and ascription of responsibility) were analyzed based on the Norm Activation Model. This study suggests that the prevalent norms supporting public transport use can act as a complementary policy for promoting independent mobility and, thus, social inclusion among older adults. Background: Dyspnea is a common symptom in patients presenting to emergency departments worldwide. The objective of the study was to determine the pattern of spirometry findings in subjects presenting with dyspnea in Bannu, KP, Pakistan. Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Bannu Medical College, Bannu, KP, Pakistan from 1st December 2015 to 31st march 2018. Sample size was 4300 selected through convenient sampling technique. All patients with acute and chronic dyspnea were included. Any patient unable to perform spirometry, recently diagnosed smear positive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), recent myocardial infarction and any infectious disease patient were excluded. A self-administered proforma was used for data collection. The demographic variables were sex and age groups. The research variables were type of lung pathology, severity of obstructive lung pathology, severity of restrictive lung pathology, causes of obstructive lung pathology and causes of restrictive lung pathology. All variables being categorical were analyzed through count and percentages using SPSS version17. Results: Out of 4300 subjects, (55.72%) were males and (44.28%) were females. Two thousands four hundred and forty five (52.32%) had obstructive, (22.49%) restrictive, (12.9%) with mixed pattern and (4.3%) had normal spirometry. In obstructive patients bronchial asthma were (35.13%), COPD 741(30.3%) asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS) (9.48%), acute bronchitis (05.64%), bronchiectasis 173(7.07%) and unclear diagnosis (04.17%). In restrictive patients post pulmonary tuberculous fibrosis (PTB) were (33.77%), cardiovascular disorders (28.35%), interstitial lung diseases (17.79%), chest wall disorders (6.47%) and unclear diagnosis in 143(13.6%). Conclusion: Ninety five percent of individuals were having an abnormal spirometeric pattern. mostly old males were having bronchial asthma & COPD as obstructive and PTB & CVDs as restrictive lung disease. The small Indian mongoose acts as a biological control agent for rodents, snakes, and many insects in agroecosystems. Its reproductive physiology has been studied mostly from its introduced range. We investigated the reproductive pattern of the female small Indian mongoose on the Potohar Plateau, i.e. its native range. We found a male:female ratio of 0.67 (n = 52); only 16% of the live-trapped females were found to be pregnant. Elevated estradiol and progesterone levels were found during March to May. LH levels showed 2 peaks: the first during March (25.5 mIU/mL) and the second in September (29.8 mIU/mL); however, FSH levels were almost the same. Light microscopic sections (H & E stained) of the ovary showed mature Graafian follicles during February, corpora lutea (early gestation) during March, and maintenance of prominent corpora lutea inside the ovary during April (late gestation period); however, during June, no corpora lutea were observed in the ovary, indicating the lactational phase. Average litter size was 2.83 ± 0.14 (by visual observation), 3 ± 0.24 (by counts of placental scars), and 3.2 ± 0.37 (by counts of developing embryos). Various field trials were performed at different locations of Punjab, Pakistan to study the effect of trace metals on uptake of iron (Fe) and wheat productivity as well as the health risk assessment by ingestion of wheat grains grown with application of different irrigation sources. The experimental design was laid out in RCBD having four replications. Soil samples were taken before sowing of crop from 0 to 15 cm depth and Triticum astivum samples were taken after irrigation through different water treatments examined for pollution load index (PLI), bioaccumulation factor (BAF), translocation factor (TF), bioconcentration factor (BCF), daily intake of metal (DIM) and health risk index (HRI) parameters. Fe concentrations in soil from five districts where wheat types watered with 3 different supplies ranged from 30.28 to 41.03 mg/kg and in grain sample ranged between 1.36 and 6.74 mg/kg. A wide gap exists between production and consumption of vegetable oils in Pakistan. Thereby, a significant proportion (2.28 million tons) of vegetable oils is being imported at the cost of 2257 million US$. Therefore, the present study was conducted to quantify the comparative performance of various sunflower hybrids as influenced by various levels of nitrogen (N) fertilizer under different agro-environments. The experimental treatments consisted of three sunflower hybrids (Hysun33, Hysun38, and Pioneer-64A93) and five levels of N fertilizer (0, 60, 120, 180, 240 kg N ha−1), arranged in a randomized complete block design in a split plot with four replications. The field trials were conducted for two consecutive crop seasons under three different agro-ecologies (arid, semi-arid, and sub-humid) in the province of Punjab, Pakistan. The results of the study demonstrated that the productivity of sunflower hybrids varied greatly in response to N fertilization and different ecologies. Maximum achene yield of 3177 kg ha−1 was harvested under sub-humid environment, followed by the semi-arid one. Among the hybrids, Hysun38 excelled the other two hybrids with a production of 3083 kg ha−1 and 41% oil contents. Generally, the productivity of hybrids increased with the increasing doses of N fertilizer. Maximum achene yield was obtained by addition of 180 kg N ha−1. The findings of the study revealed that yield potential of Hysun-38 could be exploited by addition of N fertilizer at the rate of 180 kg N ha−1 under sub-humid environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
