This article focuses on the sports tourism industry in Europe. The Dominican Republic has been noted for its beaches and water sports which had contributed to their sports tourism industry. Resorts have played an important part in this development through their facilities for many waterfront activities, scuba diving, sailing, boating, canoeing, wind surfing, etc. Despite their historical links, there have always been profound contradictions in the relationship between sport and tourism in France and Europe in terms of behaviour and development models. The end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s marked a certain narrowing of this divide, with the gradual blurring of the boundaries between tourism and sport, and an increasing hybridization of activities and reference models. In terms of sports tourism, the mountains of Bieszczady, Lower Beskid and Foothills provide excellent conditions for hiking and skiing. National parks abound in Poland, and there are about 2,000 kilometers of nature trails in the national parks. Apart from the most common activity, hiking, the areas of national parks are also accessible for skiing, mountain climbing and canoeing. The 9th International Cycling Fair, the biggest fair in Poland and the leading one in Europe, was held in January 2001, in Katowice.
