Purpose – The aim of the article is to study the changes of disposable income and consumption expenses in pensioners’ households in the years 2010-2019 and the attempt to draw conclusions corresponding to the deepening process of society ageing. Research method – Categories of disposable income and consumption expenses as well as selected issues from the field of demographic transformations were presented in the theoretical considerations, using the descriptive analysis method. The basis of empirical considerations were secondary data from the Central Statistical Office. Conclusions – The average amount of pension benefits in the common occupational system is generally lower than the average work income and it can be claimed that it gets lower systematically. Disposable incomes in pensioners’ households in 2019 were about 50% higher than in 2010. This tendency was reflected in the increase (of about 3% a year on average) of real expenses on consumption produce and services per capita in households. The increase was comparable to the general increase of consumption expenses of households in Poland. In the years 2010-2019 expenses related to food, house maintenance and energy carriers were increasing more slowly than the rise of income. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – Conducted considerations constitute a point of view in the evaluation of the changes in the income situation of pensioners’ households in view of the deepening process of ageing of the Polish society. In times of extensive demographic changes related to the ongoing process of society ageing, the elderly constitute a numerous and important consumer group on the market. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RURAL housing ,SENIOR housing ,SUBURBS ,RURAL geography ,NURSES as patients - Abstract
Purpose: To identify seniors' housing preferences Methods: A survey questionnaire conducted among seniors in rural communes of the Greater Poland Province Findings: What was characteristic of the group under the survey was their accommodation in single-family houses. Respondents were not inclined to migrate and they preferred to stay in their present house or flat and adapt it to suit their future needs connected with old age. People who would decide to move would mostly choose to live in a detached/terraced house (up to 100 m2) or a two-room flat in a low block of flats (up to four floors). As regards financing, they would prefer to exchange their old flat for a new one or sign a long-term rent agreement. Respondents would like to live in the countryside or in the outskirts of the city. They would also choose a location not too distant from their present place of living due to their family relations and neighbour friends. Respondents would also consider moving to a building adapted to the needs of senior residents - flats with facilities for disabled people and services available for seniors. The most valued services were medical nursing and rehabilitation care. Housing preferences of elderly people living in a rural area were difficult to determine, especially among men. During meetings of seniors those were women who participated most often. The research was time-consuming and expensive. The housing preferences survey for seniors should be extended to studies in other voivodships. Research implications: The research can be used by local governments and developers to create an offer of senior housing in Poland for different groups of elderly people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OLDER people , *POPULATION aging , *AGING , *FAMILIES - Abstract
The increasingly noticeable Polish population ageing is attracting more and more interest in the problems of ageing. Successful ageing means reaching an old age with insignificant risk of disabilities and illnesses, with high intellectual and physical fitness and maintaining high level of activity. Meeting the needs is the most basic human act that is regarded as extending the humanity. On the one hand, it is expressed by solidarity and commitment to support other members of society and overcoming difficult situations and, on the other hand, by love for close relatives that need assistance. For seniors, family is the most important point of reference and a guarantee of the sense of security, care, acceptance and support. Family is emphasized as the only institution that is able to fill the extended deficits of the old age and effectively solve the problems experience by older adults (emotional, organizational, financial and those related to everyday functioning). Family is also the place where most important psychical needs are met while the traditional communication between generations guarantees a constant transfer of physical, emotional and financial support. Apart from family, the needs of older adults are also met by local governments. Local communities are effective in accurate diagnosis of the needs of older adults and building a system where many entities, through activation, will include older adults in the community. The aim of this study is to highlight the importance of families in meeting the needs of older adults and the role played by local governments in supporting these people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Physical fitness and mental state have a significant impact on the functionality level of the elderly population. Assessing the degree elderly people's of independence regarding self-care is an important aspect of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). The aim of the study was to assess the functional capacity of people over 65 years of age., Material and Methods: The study involved 312 patients in hospital wards across Lower Silesia, south-west Poland. The criteria for participation were as follows: providing informed consent to participate in the study, intellectual capacity to be interviewed, and age over 65. The study applied the diagnostic survey method, together with the use of the VAS, Barthel, IADL and GDS scales., Results: Among the respondents, 59.94% were in a moderately severe condition according to the Barthel scale, average IADL score - 20.56 points; according to the GDS scale, 58.97% had no symptoms of depression. Respondents suffered from multiple chronic diseases, the most common of which were hypertension (71.47%); they also reported some medical issues, mainly back pain (47.44). Assessment of the correlation of the Barthel and GDS scales, as well as the IADL and GDS, revealed a significant and negative correlation at -0.49 and -0.50. Assessment of the correlation between the number of diseases and the Barthel scale was -0.49, the number of symptoms and the Barthel scale -0.4; pain severity and the Barthel scale -0.41, number of diseases and IADL -0.58, and number of symptoms and IADL -0.52., Conclusions: The greater the seniors' independence regarding instrumental activities of daily living, the weaker the symptoms of depression.
