This cross-sectional study aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes and behaviours about COVID-19 among high school students in Portugal, given its importance for adherence to measures aimed at preventing this disease. High school students from all regions of the country (N = 1258) completed an online questionnaire in May 2020. Students revealed good knowledge about COVID19, correctly answering 12 out of 14 items, and reported mostly positive attitudes towards preventive behaviours. However, the adoption of these behaviours was lower: only 6 out of 12 behaviours were adopted, on average, by students. Differences by sex, school year, region and course are presented. Being a female, attending courses on Visual Arts or Languages and Humanities, and having more positive attitudes towards prevention of COVID-19 increase the likelihood of adopting preventive behaviours. The investment in preventive campaigns is essential to enhance adherence to preventive behaviours in this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Theoretical framework: The success of breastfeeding depends on the mother’s historical, sociocultural, and psychological factors, as well as on the health professionals’ commitment, and technical and scientific knowledge to promote and support breastfeeding. Objectives: To identify mothers’ perception of nurses’ breastfeeding promotion practices. Methodology: A quantitative descriptive correlational study was conducted in a nonprobability purposive sample of 88 mothers of children aged between 2 days and 3 years. A questionnaire was applied during May 2012. Results: Nurses’ practices were considered as fair and poor by 43.2% and 29.5% of the mothers, respectively. Education, the workplace, and the working time are associated with the mothers’ perception of nurses’ breastfeeding promotion practices. Conclusion: Nurses should reflect on their breastfeeding practices and training, encouraging mothers not only from a normative and technical perspective, but also from a psychosocial perspective, adapting their practices to each woman’s needs. National and international guidelines on show that nursing practices are focused on families. We have conducted a quantitative study, with the objective of characterizing the attitudes of nurses working in primary health care in regional health centers, on the importance of involving the family in nursing care. We studied a sample of 871 nurses at health centers in the central region of Portugal, using the Portuguese version of the Families Importance in Nursing Care – Nurses’ Attitudes scale (FINC-NA)( Benzei et al., 2008), validated by Oliveira et al. (2009; 2011). The results showed high average scores on the following dimensions: Family: use of nursing care (76.48) and Family: partner in the dialogue and coping resources (73.33), and low scores on Family: burden (21.60). These results highlight that nurses have supportive attitudes towards families, and these are related to training, length of professional experience, the unit where they work, and the method of organization of care. We conclude that nurses in regional health centers have supportive attitudes towards families, which is an important criterion for the quality of care they provide in the context of primary health care.
