Introduction: Urinary incontinence can be considered a common condition associated with the aging process with extremely disabling symptoms, being two to three times more prevalent in women than in men. The use of validated instruments for the initial diagnosis of urinary incontinence is essential to obtain uniformity and systematization in the assessment of this condition. Objective: To adapt and validate the International Consultation Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) for the Portuguese population. Methodology: Two independent translations of the ICIQ-UI SF were performed by Portuguese translators fluent in English. After harmonizing them, the resulting translation was independently back translated by two English translators fluent in Portuguese. The final version of the ICIQ-UI SF into Portuguese was applied to 90 users of the outpatient urology, urology and gynecology inpatient clinic of a hospital located in Gaia. The psychometric properties and reliability of the questionnaire were evaluated. Results: No changes to the original format of the ICIQ-UI SF were observed at the end of the instrument's translation and adaptation process. The average age of participants was 55 years. Internal consistency was high, as demonstrated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.85). Pearson's coefficient for questions 3 and 4 was 0.88 and for questions 4 and 5 it was 0.82. The evaluation was considered satisfactory and statistically significant. Conclusion: The Portuguese version of the ICIQ-UI SF was successfully validated, making it possible to apply it to the Portuguese population with satisfactory reliability and construct validity. Objective: to perform translation, cultural adaptation and validation of content and appearance of the instrument "Practice Standards for Nurses Providing Pediatric Cancer Care in Atlantic Canada" into Brazilian Portuguese. Method: this is a study of translation, cultural adaptation and validation of content and appearance of instrument. Eight professionals participated in the committee of judges. Results: there was a need to adapt the semantics and grammatical corrections with the version approved by the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology. The Content Validity Index was adopted. Three rounds were performed to achieve the Content Validity Index =0.8 in 100% of items: first 233 items (96%), second 9 items (90%), third round 1 item. In the pre-test, 100% comprehension was obtained. Conclusion: the translated version of the original instrument is suitable for use in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to analyze the factorial structure of the Perception Scale of Nursing Activities that Contribute to the Quality of Care. Method: a methodological study with 3,451 nurses from 36 Portuguese hospitals. In addition to carrying out confirmatory factorial analysis, Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability were used to assess the reliability of the obtained factorial model. Results: the factorial weights of the solution found were mostly high; the values of the model's adjustment indexes were reasonable; Cronbach's alpha was elevated for the entire scale and five dimensions, being acceptable in only one dimension. The composite reliability was also high in five dimensions, except for one, considered acceptable. All activities showed high individual reliability. Conclusion: Compared to the original scale, the identified factorial model contemplates six dimensions and not seven, producing a reliable and valid scale, which can be applied in the hospital context. Background: Acute confusion and delirium are common phenomena,especially in elderly people hospitalized in non-psychiatric acute wards. However, in Portugal there are few validated psychometricinstruments that can help to identify these conditions in a clinical context. Objective: To translate and validate the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) for the Portuguese population. Method:Methodological study to evaluate the psychometric properties of the CAM diagnostic algorithm, using DSM-IV-TR® criteria as the gold standard. A random sample of 100 hospitalized elderly people was selected. The CAM was translated using a translation and back-translation technique. Results: In terms of the psychometricproperties, using the sensitive and specific scoring method, the results observed were: values for sensitivity – 67% (in both cases);values for specificity - 94% and 97%; values for positive predictive accuracy - 25% and 40%; and values for negative predictive accuracy -99% (in both cases). The CAM was shown to have convergent validity with the NeeCham Confusion Scale and concurrent validity with DSMIV-TR® criteria. The inter-rater reliability was 100%. Conclusions: TheCAM is an instrument with good sensitivity and very good specificity and is easy to use for delirium screening. In cases of acute confusion the CAM should be used prudently, and should be complemented by the NeeCham Confusion Scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
