Al-Andalus as it is conceived and as a myth is part of the national narratives of Spain and Portugal, in so many historical societies it is compared with Islam. It is very important in shaping the Spanish national narrative, generating movements of philia and phobia. It has had less importance in Portugal. The current crisis in Spain, mired in territorial tensions, and in Portugal, without British protection, is giving rise to a revision of their role in the formation of the imagined community. Al-Andalus constitutes a transversal narrative, which has been perceived from America, by authors such as Gilberto Freyre and Américo Castro, and which allows us to review the appraisals of the Iberian methodological.
