This article develops a reflexive and interpretive analysis of the life of children in superdiversity contexts, systematizing some of its impacts on the construction of a children's citizenship, with particular reference to the Portuguese case. The article promotes the conceptual construction of the child in the 21st century through the correlation of qualitative analysis variables based on a multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary theoretical framework. The article introduces the child protection system in Portugal within a framework of European and international influences. It identifies the indicators present in public policies and in the social welfare system that affect child protection in a cross-analysis with the professional practices that intervene with children and families. The author addresses the questions of the ecosocial dimension in the territorialized intervention of family policies in contemporary and multiple approaches to superdiversity. For policy-makers and practitioners in local government, NGOs and social services, appreciating the dimensions and dynamics of superdiversity has profound implications for how they might understand and deal with modes of difference and their interactions within the population. Background: Institutional foster care is a protective strategy for children/adolescents at risk in which nurses are responsible for health education, health promotion, and health care. Objective: To validate a protocol of nurses' responsibilities in institutional foster care settings for children and adolescents. Methodology: Delphi study with two rounds for validation of the protocol that was built after a literature review and field research. A Delphi survey was used to validate the protocol by 12 international experts with experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research. The minimum agreement rate of 80% was considered. The modified Guidance on Conducting and REporting DElphi studies (CREDES) was used. Results: The protocol was validated, with an agreement rate of 90% in the second round, after expert consensus on the items related to the managerial, care, educational, and sociopolitical categories of nurses' responsibilities. Conclusion: The protocol had content and face validity and will be used to define nurses' responsibilities in institutional foster care settings for children/adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: adapt and validate the instrument Children Care Quality at Hospital (CCQH) to assess the quality of nursing care of hospitalized children for the Portuguese language of Portugal. Materials and Methods: content, language, and conceptual validity methodological study, with translation, feedback, and reflection. A non-probabilistic simple was used of 252 children between 7 and 11 years of age, hospitalized due to acute disease in nine services of six Portuguese hospitals. The reliability and validity of the results were determined to measure the psychometric properties of the instrument. Construct validity was calculated through exploratory factor analysis of main components with Varimax rotation and the internal consistency by determining the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: the internal consistency has adequate psychometric characteristics suitable for the Portuguese population (Cronbach's alpha values between 0.66 and 0.82). The instrument maintained 49 items grouped into three categories: characteristics, activities, and environment. The psychometric characteristics of the CCQH, adapted and validated for Portuguese, guarantees its reliability and validity to measure satisfaction with the quality of nursing care from the perspective of school-aged children. Background: The international guidelines recognize that the treatment of asthma focuses both on the current control and the risk of exacerbations, based on the management of symptoms which advocate an objective assessment. The Childhood Asthma Control Test (c-ACT) tool allows an assessment of the control of asthma in children and is used in Portugal, but has no validation. Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the c-ACT tool for the Portuguese population. Methodology: A methodo ogical, quantitative, and transversal study, on a sample of 60 children and healthcare providers, for the analysis of the psychometric properties of a measuring tool, written in Portuguese. The internal consistency was evaluated by Cronbach's alpha, and the factorial validity and reliability of the model were analyzed using exploratory factorial analysis. Results: The tool showed internal consistency, with a Cronbach alpha of 0.716. There are statistically significant correlations between each item and the overall evaluation. Conclusion: The c-ACT tool demonstrated good psychometric properties, giving validity and reliability for use in the Portuguese population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Theoretical framework: Several spinal problems and misalignments begin during puberty and can be associated to poor posture. Objetives: To characterise the posture of children and adolescents by searching for associations with sociodemographic, behavioural, anthropometric, and clinical variables. Methodology: Cross-sectional analytical study using photogrammetry in a sample consisting of 135 participants, aged between 6 and 18 years. Results: The weight of the backpack was inadequate (>15% of body weight) in 10% of cases. The prevalence of low back pain associated to the type of footwear and Adam’s test was 37.8%. Students with positive Adam’s test are older, heavier, taller, more sedentary, and carry excessive weight in their backpacks. Significant gender differences were observed in the anterior view for both Q-angles, with girls tending to physiologic genu valgum). In the right and left lateral views, the results in the Adam’s test varied significantly, with participants with positive Adam’s test tending to a forward head posture. Theoretical framework: Pain assessment in children with chronic conditions requires the use of multidimensional tools, such as the Adolescent Pediatric Pain Tool (APPT), which identify the intensity, location and quality of pain. Objectives: To validate the translation and cultural adaptation of the APPT for use in portuguese children and adolescents with cancer. Methodology: The translation was validated through an independent process of translation and back-translation of the tool and its analysis was performed by a panel of reviewers until consensus was reached. The semantic validation of the descriptors of pain quality was performed by children with cancer aged 8-17 years, using the Q-sort method. Results: A final version with conceptual, semantic, idiomatic and experiential equivalence to the original tool was obtained. Children revealed discriminative ability of the descriptors, being able to distinguish the words that they used to describe pain from those that they did not use. Conclusion: The portuguese version of the APPT is a culturally adapted tool to assess the location, intensity and quality of pain in portuguese children with cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
