The article presents the author's views on fishing on the lower Ottawa River which is shared by Ontario and Quebec. The author was amazed to discover new facts while fishing in the lower river. He discovered plenty of fishes in the river and found it to be a great fishery. Due to the development of several sewage treatment plants, raw sewage is prevented from entering the river. Only the beginning and the end of the author's route along Highways 533 and 63 from Mattawa, Ontario to Temiscaming, Quebec tracked the upper Ottawa River. Author's trip began in Mattawa, 62 kilometres east of North Bay, Ontario on Highway 17. Mattawa's strategic location at the meeting of the Mattawa and Ottawa Rivers made it the Grand Central Station for freighter canoes paddled by early explorers, missionaries, and voyagers. An attractive park, government dock, and museum now mark the junction of the two historic rivers at aptly named Explorer's Point.
