Investigates whether the scarcity of zooxanthellate sponge in unshaded areas of shallower waters in the Red Sea is linked to the failure of photosymbionts to adapt to high irradiances. Patterns of rapid light curves during the adaptation time of sponges; Adaptability of photosymbionts to various irradiances; Relationship between the photosynthetic light responses of the zooxanthellae and the ambient light to which various hosts are naturally exposed.
