Throughout this research we reflect on how the convergence of technology and migration is changing highly skilled labour mobility and the relationship between place and value production. We reflect on the impact of these transformations on the tech sector and IT labour market in Cluj-Napoca. We aim to understand how the pandemic coupled with the current trends in labour mobility and value production have affected labour markets and highly skilled labour migration. The paper stems as reflection from a fieldwork which are currently conducting in Romania with a focus on transnational entrepreneurship, social networks of innovation and labour migration in the tech industry. The article brings forward findings from the field, drawing on the developments that accelerated and changed the way we work in the post-pandemic period and analysing what implications these trends could have on the nature of migration and the connection between value production and place. Migration has far-reaching implications for regional-economic growth and spatial disparities. This paper explores the role played by migration in spatial-economic development in Romania, a country that is facing large and persistent regional disparities. We develop a spatial-econometric model for studying the impact of migration movements in Romania (both domestic and international) on regional welfare patterns in this country. Employing a one-lag spatial dynamic panel model for the period 1995–2015 and accounting for the endogeneity of migration and human capital, our findings reveal that migration clearly adds to divergence. The composition effect outweighs the neoclassical quantitative effect and thus, migration undermines convergence. When migration inflows foster growth by skills-selectivity and strengthening agglomeration economies in richer destination regions, migration outflows appear to inhibit growth in source regions. Spatiality also matters, as regions turn out to grow faster when neighbouring other regions with a high development level, due to spillover effects. However, the clustering tendency of regions with a similar development level undermines convergence. In policy terms, our findings emphasize the need of economic incentives for raising human capital and investment stocks in regions that are lagging behind. This translates also into a strong argument in favour of EU Cohesion policy that can leverage the competitiveness–cohesion trade-off by increasing connectivity between regions and improving their business environment. Convergence of multimedia content involves the unification of several media channels through a technology, and it is in a state of continuous transformation driven by the technological evolution. Recently developed, mobile and wireless technologies have facilitated new forms of convergence that permit users to consume information. Although media convergence involves many aspects, this paper considers just the perspective of technological convergence. The subject of this article is mobile sites created as a consequence of the convergence based on mobile technologies and devices. This paper shows new forms of media convergence designed by the mobile technologies. It presents and discusses theoretical aspects of this topic, and also describes practical solutions adopted by the media industry in Romania. The methodological solution is based on hierachical cluster analysis to group similar mobile sites based on their characteristics. This paper carries out an internal analysis of convergence and migration in Romania at county level over the period 1995-2008. The econometric technique applied is the two-way fixed effects panel data model which controls for spatial dependence between neighboring counties. The main results show that migration was oscillatory, sigma-divergence was accompanied by beta-convergence, and the country was submitted to a brain gain phenomenon in which lagging counties were favored by migration and increased their growth at the expense of leading counties which slow down growth.
