The role of university education in providing access to the labour market (employment) is reflected in increased employment opportunities for the educated population. The relationship between the unemployment rate and educational attainment is evident: the unemployment rate decreases as one moves from lower to higher levels of education. It can be seen that the unemployment rate, in terms of its size and dynamics, is inversely proportional to the level of education: it falls as the level of education rises, and vice versa. The aim of the research in this paper is to respond to the need to teach students with practical solutions for getting the skills needed to be easily employable in the labour market after graduation. The paper used a quantitative (questionnaire) and a qualitative (bibliometric) analysis. The data studied through the research shows the need for final-year students to receive additional practical skills training for employability. Entrepreneurship education, in addition to the university curriculum, can provide them with a viable alternative to increase their chances of integrating into the 21st century labour market. The innovative character of the work derives from the concrete practical activities that supported the optional entrepreneurial training of IULS students from Iasi. We can affirm, following the study undertaken, that the development of such additional and adapted educational activities increases young graduates' practical skills needed on the labour market. The access to non-reimbursable European funds, which offer additional educational opportunities to students, must be continued in order to produce the major economic effects expected by the whole Romanian society, with the aim of reducing youth unemployment. Purpose: An increasing number of international immigrant workers enter the EU labour market to fill the gap in many key economic sectors. Labour migration often implies a process of family adaptation and, in some cases, a breakdown in the community structure and networks. This study aims to provide insights into the dynamics of transnational families, focusing on changes in the redefinition of roles within family members and children care arrangements. Design/methodology/approach: The study was based on the analysis of 12 biographical interviews conducted using semi-structured interviews between November 2018 and December 2019 among Romanian women who worked as caregivers in families in an Italian metropolitan city and the surrounding urban area. Findings: Despite the economic dimension being essential, psychological well-being increasingly burdens workers' migratory experience and that of their family members. Findings suggest including employers and children among the actively involved actors of the family decision-making process; working and contractual conditions as factors that significantly impact the opportunities and capability of workers to provide and receive care, mainly if the latter are employed in the informal market. Originality/value: The study makes it possible to highlight that the dynamics in decision-making processes in transnational families change in the different phases of the migration project and involve numerous actors. University–Business partnership for collaborative curriculum design, development, and delivery is an important dimension of University–Business Collaboration (UBC), but scarce information exists on how to enhance partnership for the design, development, and implementation of new curricula. With these questions in focus, this article intends to present and discuss the perceived experience during a three-year European funded project, namely, Think4Jobs. This project exemplifies the significance and benefits of UBC in the design, development, and delivery of curricula that meet the evolving demands of the labour market while promoting Critical Thinking (CT) as a foundational 21st century skill to contribute to graduates' employability. Think4Jobs project brought together a multidisciplinary team of researchers and business organisations from five European countries (Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Portugal, and Romania) with interests in promoting and developing CT and mitigating eventual competence gaps. The project's success was attributed to key practices, including defining a common conceptualization of CT, employing Participatory Co-Design, and providing common training for university and business partners. Clear objectives, explicit roles, effective communication, and ongoing evaluation further enhanced the collaboration. Experiential learning, real-work problems, and case studies reinforced the curricula, bridging the gap between academia and the labour market. By embracing these insights, future UBC initiatives can empower graduates with the necessary skills to stand out in an ever-changing labour market, contributing to enhanced education and successful careers. The rate of unemployment for higher educated people has increased in Romania in the last few decades. The aim of this paper is to analyse survey data from master's students in Economics from some private and public universities in Bucharest. The study uses ANOVA/linear Dependent Dirichlet Process mixture model to explain the scores from these surveys. The results suggest that the causes of interview rejections for master's students are due to gender, work seniority, type of university attended, and the requirements of employers in the field. In addition, a rank ordered probit model is used to assess the importance assigned by managers to recommendations to improve university education. The results confirm the rigidities of the Romanian labour market and the necessity to design more and better internships that support policy recommendations for better school-to-work transition. The emergence in the field of work for the young graduates of vocational school is less studied in Romania. The present study is a longitudinal one and captures the evolution of the perception of the students of a dual vocational school about career and profession from the beginning of schooling until before graduation, given that this generation of students studied more online due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the differences in perception between the two rounds of questionnaires, the study also presents the situation of professional insertion of this generation, three months after the completion of professional studies. The aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of the multiple crises (pandemic, energy, war, the new regulations regarding employment contracts adopted in 2022) on the labour market in Romania, in an attempt to explain how the labour market is affected by them. We will use the methodology of the case study, focused on Labour Market of the Bacau County. We have structured this study in three chapters. Firstly, we will analyse the state of The Bacau County labour market. Secondly, we will show the movement of The Bacau County labour market in the last four years: 2019-2022. Thirdly, we will review the impact of the 2022 new regulation on the part-time employment contracts of the labour market and will analyse the ethical issues of the regulations. Improved legal status has been found to be associated with better labour market outcomes for immigrants, although causal effects remain difficult to ascertain. This article contributes to the debate on the 'citizenship/legal status premium' by providing quasi-experimental evidence based on the 2007 EU Eastern Enlargement, following which immigrants from Romania and Bulgaria, the new EU Member States, acquired the EU citizen status. The article also contributes to the literature on legal status effects, mainly focused on single-country studies, by comparing 'older' destination countries of Western Europe with 'newer' ones of Southern Europe. Results show that while EU citizenship acquisition is associated with higher employment rates in Western European countries, the association is null or negative in Southern European countries, where immigrants are more strongly urged to be employed. On the other hand, EU citizenship acquisition is more strongly associated with improvements in skill levels in Southern Europe, where immigrants are usually segregated in unskilled jobs, but only among men. In these countries, EU citizenship acquisition positively affects male self-employment chances as well. The article concludes that possible effects of improved legal status should be interpreted in light of different institutional contexts and models of immigrants' labour market incorporation. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a comparative analysis of the youth unemployment situation in Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania, relatively similar to economic development and with different EU member state status. It analyses distinctions in the corresponding rates on a national level and makes an attempt to summarise skills required in these labour markets which young people need to improve. Methodology: The article is a continuation of previous studies of the authors based on youth unemployment in Bulgaria and, in particular, the barriers before young people to enter the labour market successfully. The research focuses on trends of the levels of unemployment of young people during recent years using publicly available data from Eurostat as well as the skill mismatches which challenge youths to be more successful when starting their careers. The study gathers information from relevant scientific publications as well as from various reports, dedicated to this topic. Findings: The article distinguishes between the different trends in youth unemployment, looking for specific reasons. It also suggests common barriers for young people to enter the labour market in the countries under review. Practical implications: A clear view on the movement in unemployment rates amongst young people in neighbouring countries and the main barriers for them to start successful careers could be prerequisite for the countries commented to improve their policies towards management of this issue. Moreover, they could combine their efforts and create a synergetic effect trying to tackle the problem regionally. Originality/value: The paper aims to outline common challenges of a few neighbouring countries in the Balkans and, as a result, formulates trends typical for those countries which could be applicable to the bigger part of the region. Gender equality is currently one of the EU's current themes in the social field. Gender gaps continue to exist. In Romania, the same pattern of employment by gender (predominance of men in the labour market, especially in economic sectors targeted at men) is maintained. By category of worker, most unpaid family workers are female. Although both men and women work more in the services sector, the share of women in total female employment in services is higher than that of men. Also, in terms of sectors of activity, the male employed population has high shares in services and industry, while the female employed population has high shares in services and agriculture. According to the level of education, the female employed population with higher education outnumbers the male. In terms of pay, men are generally better rewarded. Surprisingly, there are also areas where women are better paid: construction; administrative and support services; public administration, defence, social security. The workforce with low and average skills is today very strongly impacted, feeling pressure on the one hand due to the inequality and vulnerability in work that it is forced to face, in the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, and, on the other hand, due to the economic situation and the changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. All these irreversible changes in society generate the restructuring of the social division of labor. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all economic sectors, and the shocks have been felt strongly in the labour market. The objective of this paper is to identify the trends on the Romanian labour market, to approximate and evaluate the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the sectors of activity and, implicitly, on the employees of these sectors. In order to carry out this analysis, relevant indicators are used for the evolution of the salary and the number of employees, for the period January 2016 - October 2021. After this section, the analysis is focused on the period 2020-2021, when the entire society faced the negative effects generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper, the disproportionate impact of the crisis at the level of the labour force is highlighted, the employees working in the Manufacturing sector being the most severely affected, almost half of the jobs lost during the lockdown period being in this sector. Another sector that was strongly impacted by measures to prevent the spread of the virus is Accommodation and food service activities. By means of this article, the author analyzes the effects of the new coronavirus disease, both from an economic perspective and from the perspective of the affected workforce. The article is structured in four parts. The first part aims to introduce the burst of the COVID-19 pandemic and its global effects. The second part analyzes the evolution of the insolvencies of the economic operators in Romania after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The third part analyzes the methods used by most companies in their efforts to tackle the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 infection. Immigration is a recent phenomenon for Romania which remains a net emigration country. The country is slowly transforming from a transit to a destination becoming more attractive for labour immigrants and immigrants for study purposes. Considering the need for evidence based policies, this paper provides an overview on the dynamic of the labour immigration in Romania and the profile and characteristics of the immigrant workers in terms of numbers, economic sectors and occupations and how and what are the mechanisms that ensure immigrants' inclusion in the workplace in Romania. The economic development depends very much on the quality of our children education because investing in education means investing in the future. To be able to stand out in a modern, competitive and technological world in which innovation and technologic evolution take place at fast pace, is not possible without a high quality education. In order to be competitive on the global market, the Romanian education needs better trainings for specialists an greater adaptability to the dynamic macro-economic trends. If during the centralized economy there was an educational system with a clear and precise purpose, namely - integration on the labour market immediately after completing studies - considering that Romania at that time was mainly an industry based country -, now the integration is much slower. The decline of the vocational and technical education system was manifested both by a decrease in prestige and by a lack of consistency in institutional practices, the cause being the numerous legislative changes. The major problem of this deficit comes from the lack of efficient mechanisms for correlating labour market requirements with the Romanian education and training system, vocational education being a tool in the strategy of attracting foreign investors. The paper focuses on the exclusion of Roma women from the economic development market in Romania which is explained through the interaction of the intersectional discrimination with other constraints which jointly deepens the situation. Thus, the analysis is centered on the main identities of Roma women, gender and race, throughout several levels from individual to state level and presents the changing position among these core identities in different contexts. The article focuses on the research into the European Pillar of Social Rights, as well as the challenges of applying the basic principles in the Member States, in order to identify the best measures for their implementation in the European Community. This analysis is structured on the 3 main categories, respectively: (1) the equal opportunities and access to the labour market, (2) the fair working conditions, (3) the social protection and social inclusion. The conclusions of the study will highlight the important role that the European Pillar of Social Rights has in the more efficient solution of the economic and social problems facing the EU, being a step forward towards " a better governance of social policies at Community level". The study aimed to add value through the research methodology used, based on a multidisciplinary approach. This involves analysing social policies from the perspective of accelerating the process of European integration, in order to reduce socio-economic disparities between the Member States. The research is based on the consultation of the specialized literature and of the studies and articles published by well-known specialists, on the analysis of official documents of the European institutions and the latest Eurostat data. Therefore, the European Pillar of Social Rights seeks to provide a single and coordinated response to the main challenges facing the EU: inequality, poverty, unemployment, social exclusion, economic and social disparities. How its principles will be put into practice in all Member States will influence the future of the EU architecture, as an area of "European values", in which the social rights of all citizens are equally respected. The Member States with "critical situations" concerning the access to the labour market and social protection, including Romania, will have to step up their efforts to implement the European Commission recommendations and attract the EU funds by using examples of good practice from performers in this field. For an adequate view over the Romanian labour market statistical data was explored, data sets published by INS Romania, EUROSTAT and CEDEFOP. On the topic of the future of the labor market, the interdependent dimensions of future work the number of available and the quality of occupations, discrepancy among the remunerations, social protection, employment relations and social communication. Data collection by economical active citizens - employment and unemployment rate underlined a low employment rate due to high number of inactive people, mismatched priority occupations, low qualifications and lack of needed skills for the job. The data collection considering forecast of the future work by occupations, economy sectors, job openings identified the same issues. Millions of jobs are transformed or jeopardized as a result of automation implementation. The large number of women who have entered the labour market in the last decades has contributed significantly to changing the perception of women's identity and its role. The role of women is no longer limited to domestic and reproductive activities; they also work closely with a paid activity, with work becoming a very important element in strengthening gender identity. However, compared to men, women employed work less hours, in sectors with lower salaries and occupy lower positions, which leads to considerable wage and pay differences between women and men. Creating a solid social protection system for atypical workers is even more necessary given that increasing women's participation in the workforce and employment rate are essential to achieving the main objective of the Europe 2020 strategy in all EU Member States. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a major economic shock. Economic activities are disrupted, and this leads to constraints on the movement of money and a severe deterioration in the financial situation of economic operators. The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has been and still is strongly felt on the Romanian labour market. Analysis of the effect on the evolution of the labor market predicts a significant increase of demand in skills and qualifications on all levels of workplaces in the future. Industrial and technological changes bring along higher demands of medium-to-highly qualified personnel, while leaving behind the underprepared. Workplaces that required a low level of preparation in the past have also shown a constant increase in medium or even highlevel skill requirements. Currently, the level of skill demand is increasing in all professional categories, including even the lowest tiers of occupations. There is a noticeable increase in demand for a highly qualified and adaptive workforce, as well as workplaces requiring high qualifications and formal education. Requirements regarding skills and qualifications also suffer a significant increase in all workplace levels. Structural changes in the labor market lead to a polarizing increase of workplaces dedicated to the highlyqualified, resulting in a drop of demand for workplaces involving trivial tasks, suited for the less qualified personnel. Thus, workplace polarization occurs on all professional levels creating a significant imbalance in favor of the highlyqualified. In this context, less qualified personnel (or non-qualified) will face multiple adversities when searching for a workplace in the future as well as confronting the permanent threat of unemployment (statistics indicating that non-qualified or less qualified personnel have approximatively twice the unemployment rate when comparing them to the highly-qualified category). In the same context, Romania's economy is also in a constant and dynamic change process, generated both by the transition to a market-based economy and by the effects of globalization. To further understand the labor market mechanisms, this paper analyses a series of statistical indicators obtained either through direct measurement such as: labor resources, active population, working population, number of employees, number of unemployed, either through calculation of derived indicators such as: activity rate, employment rate, unemployment rate, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We think that there is a need to be implemented a series of critical measures for a real reform of the technical and vocational education system in the context of the paradigmatic mutations generated by the switch towards the society of knowledge. At the same time, increase the accuracy and completeness of the records in the REVISAL software (General Ledger and Employees Registry) would allow a much better adaptation of the education system to the requirements of the labor market both by defining new professional qualifications and by substantiating the schooling figures on a real basis or by using labor market insertion as an assessment criterion for educational establishments. We also point out that the analyzes on the structure and trends of the Romanian education system, based on data extracted from the national statistical application, should be considered in the design and implementation of any public policy impacting on the business environment and regional development. We appreciate that only through full knowledge and awareness of the labor market realities, including the correlation with the structure of the education system at the regional level, is possible a homogeneous development of the labor force, correlated with the competitiveness fields and with the investment priorities of Romania. This article focuses on a brief presentation / analysis of some factors that make it difficult to socially integrate people with disabilities. The social inclusion of people with disabilities refers to a process that seeks to provide the necessary support into realization of the potential for any person, regardless of the experience or circumstances in which they live their lives. Social exclusion of people with disabilities could cause long-term damage to living conditions, social and economic participation, sentimental life or health status for this category of people. The number of people with disabilities in Romania is steadily increasing, in order to support the active participation of people with disabilities in socio-economic, cultural and political life, opportunities for access to education, employment and decent living conditions must also be ensured. A continuous collection of statistical data specific about people with disabilities could provide: the number of people with disabilities in a particular place, the barriers they face and what policies/programs are needed to remove these barriers. In addition, disaggregating data by the type of disability is an important step in the inclusion of people with disabilities who face higher rates of death and exclusion from society. The work has the purpose of presentation of unemployment in Romania during the period from January 1992 to April 2018, but also to achieve a forecast using stohastic models for the forecast. Issue of unemployment is analyzed on the labor market, being seen as a mismatch between demand for supply of labor. The paper is focused on the export activity in Romania, in relation with labour market and technological intensity of manufacturing industries. At similar technological intensity, we analysed whether labour market segmentation takes place in relation with the form of capital ownership, i.e., higher attractiveness for employment in foreign capital firms due to the benefits of labour payment. The study reveals the existence of advantages; however, they are not significant to produce strong segmentation on the market, based on the often-erroneous perception of the potential and productive intent of foreign capital. It is a fact that Romania recorded a phenomenon of population aging, it is also a reality that there is a need to cover the deficit of labor caused by the migration abroad of Romanians and that immigration and integration policies of immigrants into the labor market should be based on strategic entry on the labor market, on the knowledge of the difficulties faced by immigrants when looking for a job, on the knowledge of their labor experience in Romania, their perception of legal barriers and the level of trust in authorities, proposals that immigrants have in order to facilitate their integration into the labor market. Currently, it is difficult to assess the contribution of immigrants to the economy of the destination countries, but foreigners with legal residence in Romania are a group of people that often meets obstacles in accessing rights, obstacles caused by lack of knowledge of the Romanian language, the inability to communicate, the lack of support information on rights and obligations or services they can access. Migration is an old phenomenon in the history of humankind. However, the magnitude, complexity, and structure of migration flows in the global era are all unprecedented. According to the United Nations Report "Trends in International Migrant Stock: the 2015 Revision" at world level 244 million international migrants were recorded in 2015. With the increase in the number of migrants, the emigration of 'high-skilled' individuals is also growing. OECD and United Nation Statistics show that in the last decade the number of migrants with tertiary education increased by about 70%. Brain drain is also a well-known phenomenon. Highly educated individuals and scientists have travelled the world in all centuries in search of better study and research, and working conditions, and of new opportunities. Nowadays, in the era of globalisation and, implicitly, of swifter development of international markets, the emigration rate of high-skilled experts exceeds the total emigration rate, which shows the selectiveness of migration at educational level. The paper presents a brief analysis of the interdependencies between migration and globalisation and of the effects of globalisation on the migration of high-skilled individuals. For the twenty-first century, the emigrants' earnings compared with those of the local population decreased due to the current economic climate and changes in the labour market of the country of destination. According to official statistics provided by Eurostat, in developed countries, compared to the previous years, as a result of the increase in the share of low skilled immigrants, the migrants' wages are very low or nonexistent in some cases - if they do not work. Although some of the emigrants have a high level of training or higher education acquired in their country of origin, they sometimes accept certain jobs regarded perhaps even as lowering in their own country. Official statistics cannot always highlight the true scale of atypical work phenomenon in Romania because of the multitude of the non-standard forms of employment and because of the fact that its regulatory and monitoring mechanisms are built in accordance with the typical work model. The Romanian academic system must adapt to the changing demands imposed by the European educational standards, according to the conventions of Bologna and Lisbon. The compatibilisation of university paths in creating the curricula must consider the competences which are to be acquired. The responsibility belongs equally to the institutions providing academic programs, but also to the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. We intend to analyse comparatively both the constant and variable elements of the academic programs for the Music field. The main activity in the Romanian rural area remains, as in many other countries, agriculture, but that doesn't mean that this is the only sector in which rural inhabitants could or wish to work in. On the contrary, I assume that a larger palette of activities, correlated with the specific interests of the rural area would solve one of its biggest problems at this moment, the ageing of population and massive migration of youngsters to urban or foreign environments, no matter their professional qualification. This paper aims to prove that wider structure of labour market, a structure that comes in support of agriculture by producing and retailing of in-put sector, adding value to the out-put and also developing service and tourism sectors can produce a real infusion of youth in Romanian rural area. The expansion of tertiary education in most of the world countries in the last 3-4 decades is recognized as one of the most striking features of the education sector. This rapid expansion has raised a range of questions generating new perspectives, debates and studies on the higher education subject and also new attitudes at the government, institutional and individual levels. Some of the most debated issues are: 1) Has this expansion affected the transition process from tertiary education to work? 2) Are tertiary education systems able to meet the needs of labour markets? 3) Has the increase in tertiary graduates resulted in an oversupply of workers with tertiary education? This paper aims to investigate the factors that influence unemployment rates of different age categories of unemployed focussing on those related to labour market mismatches at sectoral, occupational and educational level. Romania and other six CEE countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia) are analysed first in a comparative manner when the imbalances are concerned and as a group in the econometric model. The results show that unemployment rates in all the seven countries depend greatly on the economic cycle, most affected being the young. Occupational mismatches tend to a significant factor influencing mainly young and middle-aged groups, which brings into attention the need to correlate training and retraining educational programs with the evolution of the economy and labour market requirements. The end of the 2007-2013 programming period requires a detailed analysis of the effects that the implementation of European-funded projects has had on the allocation of resources and on the structure of production. Since labour is considered to be a mobile factor of production, interconnected within the structure of production, any intervention that modifies its structure will have long term effects on economic growth. Thus, in the current article, the evolution of the quantitative and qualitative indicators regarding the impact of the Sectorial Operational Programme Human Resource Development will be analysed, the main objective being the assessment of the magnitude of its effects on the structure of the labour market. At present almost a quarter of the young people in the EU (29.7% of the young people aged 15-29 years) are to be found in the situation of risk of poverty and social exclusion and in Romania, the situation is even more serious: 45.2% of the young people are in this situation. One of the main causes of this situation would be difficult access of young people to a place of employment. The objective we have in the work is to analyze public policies intended for professional integration the young people in some other European countries in order to find out to what extent Romania can be gathered from their experience, may adopt principles, standards which have been proved effective in these countries and which could improve the situation and at national level. The work will be structured in two main parts. In the first part we will make a comparative analysis of the measures applied in some European state, the results obtained and the possibility for their acquisition in another socio-economic context. Professional integration, especially in a period of economic crisis, is an extremely complex process. The level of complexity is supported by the fact that the persons seeking employment have a low level of education, they lack not only professional experience, but also the ability to identify opportunities on the labour market. Sustainable development requires responsibility to future generations in this regard, we could say that the satisfaction felt by every citizen should be motivation for adopting a sustainable economic behavior. At the same time, only if we can say that the existence of sustainable development are met the high standards of quality of life. The present research aims in determined the evolution of the quality of life in Romania, given the fact that Romania was the first socialist country where the quality of life issue was brought into attention. The research question is in what manner the European projects have improved the quality of life in Romania. The hypothesis is that there is just a small improvement of quality of life indicators that affects social and environmental sectors in Romania after the absorption of the European funds. In order to obtain the result, we analysed the data regarding social and environmental aspects and compare them in dynamic and with the public policies' proposed goals. Given the strategic importance of higher education (Europe 2020 Strategy) and agro-food industry (Common Agricultural Policy) for achieving increased competitiveness of EU economy, economic growth, social welfare and sustainable development in EU member states, the present paper aims at analyzing the evolution and present state of public higher education (funding, students, graduates) in close connection with labour market evolution, in the Romanian agro-food sector. In order to examine the trends in public higher education and labour market in the agro-food sector we used data on public funding of higher education, students, graduates and employment. The research conducted led to the idea that higher education plays a key role in preparing educated and trained workforce involved in the Romanian agro-food sector which will finally lead to increase employment of higher -educated young people in the same economic sector. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the existing situation of the labour market, from the unemployment standpoint. The present article begins by reviewing the literature and goes on to analyse the evolution of unemployment in Romania. The present study indicates that unemployment is higher among men than among women. This phenomenon has become apparent after the economic crisis, when the fields most affected were production and constructions in which most employees are male. It is predicted that the large number of unemployed individuals will not be diminished, even after the end of the crisis. Even if the economy returns to normal and consumers begin using consumer goods again, this increase will only be able to absorb a small fraction of the unemployed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Globalization involves the gradual integration of economies and societies. Due to globalization were set up job quality and adequately paid in regions of the world where survival of the population was carried out mostly on agriculture. Globalization has created benefits unevenly distributed between countries and even within them. Unfortunately economic integration worldwide had unbalanced and unfavorable results of certain regions, sectors or workers. Only insofar as it provides a more equitable social development for all, globalization is truly sustainable. European society is changing is influenced by various factors, among which technological progress, globalization of trade and population aging. As regards employment and equal opportunities employment policies shall contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens, the objective being sustainable growth and greater social cohesion. In this respect the European Union introduced a legal framework aimed at protecting citizens. Policy of the European Union and Romania embraced priority aims high employment of labor, increased mobility, improved working conditions and better quality jobs, increased information and advice workers, finding solutions combating poverty and social exclusion, equality between men and women and ensuring modern social protection systems. This paper explores the traits of the labour market in Romania, compared to the general tendencies in the EU. It adopts an institutionalist perspective, contrasting the impact of regulation with the structural problems of the Romanian labour market. By looking at such indicators as the level of public employment, self-employed persons, or percentage of manufacturing employment, this study delineas the managerial challenges embedded within the labour market in Romania, as characteristics of this country, as well as others in Eastern Europe. One of the main findings of this study is that many of the problems of the Romanian labour market remain hidden from general quantitative assessments, and policy-making needs to be informed by in-depth analysis of the underlying structures.
