DYSTOPIAS in literature - Abstract
This article analyzes and compares the anti-utopian/dystopian works of Valery Bryusov (a Russian historian, critic, translator, poet, prose writer and dramatist) with similar works of English writer George Orwell and Russian writer/satirist Yevgeny Zamyatin. Stories discussed include "На Венеру" ("On Venus"), a science fiction story by Bryusov, "Помпеянка," ("Pompeyanka"), "Градущие гунны" ("Coming Huns"), and the tragedy, "диктатор" ("The Dictator"), which the author also analyzes for the communist themes posited by Russian religious and political philosopher Nikolai Berdyaev.
