This article features the Captivate 2004 applications software from San Francisco, California-based software developer Macromedia. One can add synchronized audio narrations and apply a variety of different highlighting techniques via Captivate in making screen movies. The program's storyboard interface arranges recordings as a series of slides that logically separate portions of the action. The user can easily edit the activity on a single slide without having to rerecord an entire session. Captivate can publish a work as either a stand-alone executable file or a Flash single network firewall file that can be incorporated into a Web page. There is also support for exporting the various storyboard slides into the Word program, forming the basis of end-user documentation.
