A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) focused on the influence of the NAT2 genotype and maturation on isoniazid exposure in low-birth-weight and preterm infants with or without HIV/AIDS. The study aimed to assess the exposure and safety of isoniazid in infants receiving oral tuberculosis prevention. The researchers found that isoniazid dosing needs frequent adjustment in infants due to rapid growth and maturation, and that identification of metabolizer status can optimize dosing.
