The article focuses on St. James the Apostle and the badges produced in his name for the pilgrims that visited his cult centres. James is the brother of John and the son of Zebedee, according to the Gospels. The first church on the site where St. James' tomb was discovered was built in 829, followed by another in 899. Information on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, as well as the scallop shell badge of St. James, is provided.
