This text is a reflection on the set of events of the "Constitutionalist Revolution" of 1932. The war movement was translated, before and during its occurrence, into sociopolitical disputes for the representation of memory. The winner in the trenches invested in proclaiming to the paulistas the separatist, conservative and oligarchic character. In its counterpart, a historiography of São Paulo memory, supported by official monuments, joined efforts, after the defeat in the dispute, in the production of another narrative, and the civic celebration on the 24th of July was enthroned in social memory as a landmark of resistance to an authoritarian and unconstitutional central power. Capital and labor participated, each in their own way, with their representations, political parties, such as the PRP, PD and PCB, as well as artists, press, sociologist and literary, among them Mário and Oswald de Andrade, with their collective and singular interpretations about the tensions and contradictions at that time.
