Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and fixed prosthodontics practice guidelines amongst dental practitioners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Setting: This study was done amongst 500 Dental Practitioners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2020-21. Methods: 500 dentists were selected randomly from private and public dental sectors and dental schools. A survey was conducted through e questionnaire composed of 19 questions. An IBM SPSS statistical program was employed for the analysis. Chi square test was used to compare between males and females. All questions had the p value < 0.05 that means there is statistically significant difference. Results were analyzed and compared using Chi-square. Results: This study showed that 320 (64%) participants fabricated study cast before proceeding with the fabrication of the fixed prostheses and 420 (82%) of them assessed abutment tooth radiographically. The vitality test for restored abutments was always done by 330 (66%) of the respondents, Carbide and diamond burs were used by 230 (46%) and additional cured silicone was used by 380 (76%) of them for making final impression. Maximum number of participants [410 (82%)] used retraction cord before making final impression. Both written prescriptions and verbal instructions were used by 360 (72%) of the practitioners for communication with the lab. Conclusion: Dental practitioners showed acceptable level of knowledge, awareness and practice of fixed prosthodontics. There was no gender variation in the knowledge regarding the fixed prosthesis. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and fixed prosthodontics practice guidelines amongst dental practitioners of Qassim in Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done amongst the Dental Practitioners of Qassim Province, Saudi Arabia in 2018. A total of 290 dentists were selected randomly (from public and private dental clinics and dental schools). A survey was conducted through printed and online questionnaire composed of 19 open and multiple-choice questions. Data from the completed questionnaires were analysed using the SPSS Statistical Software Package (version 25). All statistical analyses were carried out at a significance level of P < 0.05. Results were analysed and compared using the Chi-square test and frequency test. Results: This study showed that 227 (78.3%) of the participants assessed abutment tooth radiographically, also most of them fabricated study cast before starting crown and bridge procedures 37.2% (108). The vitality test for restored abutments was always done by 132 (45.5%) respondents, and 111 (38.3%) of them used poly vinyl siloxane for making final impression, which provides the level of quality of final impression. A total of 117 (40.3%) of them always used retraction cord before making final impression. Both written prescriptions and verbal instructions were used by 209 (72.1%) of the practitioners for communication with the lab. The study revealed that there were no significant differences between males and females in answering questions 11, 13 and 17. Conclusion: The dental practitioners (DPs) of Qassim displayed an acceptable level of knowledge and a level of awareness of fixed prosthodontics practicing. However, to further enhance the proficiency, efforts should be made to encourage the practitioners to be aware of the advances in fixed prosthodontics practice through state-of-the-art continuous education programmes. Clinical Significance: As fixed prosthodontic restorative procedures are widely practiced for dental rehabilitation in Saudi Arabia, it was very important to measure and evaluate the knowledge of DPs about the details of basic steps in the field of fixed prosthodontics and the way of practicing this important branch of dentistry. The appropriate convergence angle (CA) for adequate retention and resistance of cast crowns has always been a matter of research and discussion. The purpose of this study was to measure the CA of tooth preparation for single crown (SC) or as abutments for fixed partial denture (FPD) carried out by final-year undergraduate dental students at the College of Dentistry, King Saud University and to compare them with the recommended CA. The convergence angles of 355 tooth preparations were evaluated and grouped into SC preparations and FPD abutment preparations. Dies were scanned using the computer-assisted design (CAD) system (Cercon, Degudent), and snapshots were then taken from buccal and mesial views. CA was calculated from a colored printout for each snapshot using a protractor. The overall mean CA was 18.56°. Only 32.7 percent of the preparations were within the recommended CA (<12°). The mean CA of SC (17.7°) was less than the mean CA for FPD abutment preparations (19.58°). The mean CA for anterior tooth preparations (15.8°) was significantly less than the mean CA for posterior tooth preparations (20.3°). The mean CA for mesio-distal axial wall preparations (16.66°) was less than the mean CA for the buccolingual axial wall preparations (20.45°). A wide range was found for the convergence of the axial walls among dental students. The recommended CA (<12°) was difficult to achieve clinically by these students.

In this study, 156 dental bridges, constructed in 132 randomly selected patients were evaluated. There was no significant difference between the number of bridges placed in males and the number placed in females. However, the results revealed that the maxillary arch received more prostheses than the mandibular arch. The most-frequently replaced teeth were the mandibular first molars and the least-frequently replaced were mandibular canines. Maxillary second premolars, the mandibular second premolars and the mandibular second molars were the most frequent teeth used as abutments.
