The article summarizes the program on surgical management of various liver diseases presented at the 7th World Congress of International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association held in Edinburgh, Scotland from September 3 to 7, 2007. Advances in surgical techniques of liver resection, role of ablative therapies, application of liver transplantation, trends in management of colorectal liver metastasis and controversies in management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are the major areas discussed.

The article presents an overview of studies on biliary tract surgery and gallbladder cancer presented at a symposium sponsored by the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) held in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2006. The effects of diet and sedentary activities on biliary stones was discussed by outgoing IHPBA president, Doctor Henry Pitt. A population-based study in the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgical diseases was presented by Doctor Palepa Jagannarth.
