A recent study conducted by researchers at Kookmin University in Seoul, South Korea, has proposed a new electromechanical system for small-volume needle-free jet injection. The current commercially available jet injectors lack dynamic control and cannot achieve shallow penetration depths. The proposed system combines a mechanically actuated source to pressurize the fluid and an electrically actuated system to control the characteristics of the microjet. The researchers developed a computational model to prove the feasibility of the system, showing that it can produce stable small-volume microjets at a frequency of about 100 Hz for drug delivery applications.
