Background: Life satisfaction (LS) serves as a crucial indicator of social wellbeing and plays a significant role in formulating strategies aimed at enhancing health outcomes among the hearing-disabled population. This study aimed to examine the effect of anxiety, depression, and structural social capital on life satisfaction among people with hearing disabilities in Shanghai, China. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Shanghai, China. As of March 2022, 337 people with hearing disabilities were recruited fromthe Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation. An online survey was conducted using a four-part questionnaire to collect data including demographic characteristics, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Social Capital Scale (SCS), and a single-item question to measure life satisfaction. One-sample t-tests, Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were performed. Results: Anxiety (β=- 0.153) and depression (β =- 0.242) were significant factors influencing life satisfaction among people with hearing disabilities. Structural social capital also played an influential role in life satisfaction, and people with hearing disabilities who lack social networks (β = 0.125) and social support (β = 0.121) reported significantly lower levels of life satisfaction. However, no significant relationship was found in this study between LS and other components of structural social capital, such as social participation. Conclusion: This study shows that paying attention to mental health is critical for people with hearing disabilities to achieve social wellbeing and promote LS improvement. At the same time, the government and society also need to focus on the structural social capital, provide various social service programs, enhance social support, and expand social networks, improving LS for people with hearing disabilities. Objectives: Family caregivers are important to older adults' health, but few studies have examined how caregivers' mental health is associated with older adults' cognitive function. This study examined the trajectories of cognitive function of older adults and whether caregivers' depressive symptoms shape the pattern of cognitive function trajectories. Methods: This 6-year longitudinal sample consisted 1188 older adults aged =75 years with deficits in activities of daily living (ADL) and their family caregivers in Shanghai, China (Rounds 1-3). Cognitive function trajectories were identified based on an enhanced group-based trajectory modeling that accounted for nonrandom attrition. Multinomial logistic regression tested the association between caregivers' depressive symptoms and older adults' cognitive function trajectory. Results: Three trajectory groups were identified: a "newly onset" group (50.4%) had an increased risk of being cognitive impaired during the 6-year period; a "never" group (46.2%) remained cognitive active; and a "chronic" group was largely persistently cognitive impaired (3.4%). Caregivers' depressive symptoms increased the relative risk of having the "onset" or "chronic" versus "never" trajectory. Among the four dimensions of depressive symptoms, only somatic complaints were associated with a higher risk of the "newly onset" trajectory in 6 years. Conclusion: The progression of cognitive function among older adults with deficits in ADL followed three distinct trajectories during a 6-year period. Urbanization is one of the most important driving forces for land use and land cover change. Quantifying urban landscape pattern and its change is fundamental for monitoring and assessing ecological and socioeconomic consequences of urbanization. As the largest city in the country, Shanghai is now the fastest growing city in China. Using land use data set of 2002 and combining gradient analysis with landscape metrics, we analyzed landscape pattern of Shanghai with increasing grain size to study the impacts of road corridors on urban landscape pattern. Landscape metrics were computed along a 51×9 km² transect cutting across Shanghai with a moving window. The results showed that the urban landscape pattern of Shanghai was greatly changed when road corridors were merged with urban patches and the variation of patch density would alter when grain size changed. As a linear land use type, road corridors exhibited a different spatial signature comparing with other land use types and distinctive behavior with increasing grain size. Merging road and urban patches resulted in a sharp reduction in patch density, mainly caused by segmentation of roads corridors. The results suggested that grain size around 7.5 m might be optimal for urban landscape analysis. Landscape patch density is significantly correlated with road percent coverage and the most important effect of road corridors in urban landscape is increased habitat fragmentation.
