Background: Many previous studies reported secular trend of lung cancer incidence and mortality, but little is known about the possible reasons for these trends. Methods: Data were obtained from Shanghai Cancer Registry. Age‐standardized rates were calculated and average annual percent changes (AAPCs) were evaluated by Joinpoint regression. Age, period, and birth cohort effects were assessed by age‐period‐cohort models. Results: From 1973 to 2010, compared with long‐time slowly increasing trend in women, male lung cancer incidence had significantly decreased between 2001 and 2009. After that lung cancer incidence rising sharply in women (AAPC = 14.13%, 95%CI: 2.68%‐26.86%, P =.016) and similar rising trends without statistical significance in men (AAPC = 2.96, 95%CI: −2.47%‐8.69%, P =.281) between 2010 and 2014. Age‐period cohort model showed the different patterns of period effects for lung cancer incidence between men and women. The period effects for lung cancer incidence showed rising effect for women, whereas there was decline effect for lung cancer incidence for men. On the other hand, the model showed a significant period effect in both genders with a similar fashion in mortality, yielding steady falling trends during the entire study period. Conclusions: The distinctive patterns of lung cancer incidence between men and women may be attributable to significant period effects, which reflected the changes in public health policies or diagnostic practices and highlighted the urgent of continued monitoring of gender‐specific risk factors for lung cancer incidence. Postmenstrual spotting and chronic pelvic pain after cesarean delivery are associated with the presence of niches. Levonorgestrel intrauterine system (52 mg) and hysteroscopic niche resection have been shown to relieve niche-related symptoms at 6 months after the intervention. This trial aimed to compare the effectiveness of 52-mg levonorgestrel intrauterine system with that of hysteroscopic niche resection in reducing niche-related postmenstrual spotting. This randomized, open-label, controlled trial was conducted at a medical center in Shanghai, China. Women with symptoms of postmenstrual spotting after cesarean delivery, with a niche depth of at least 2 mm and residual myometrium of at least 2.2 mm on magnetic resonance imaging, and no intention to conceive within the next year were randomly assigned to receive treatment with 52-mg levonorgestrel intrauterine system or hysteroscopic niche resection. The primary outcome was the reduction in postmenstrual spotting at 6 months after randomization, defined as the percentage of women with a reduction of at least 50% in spotting days relative to baseline. Efficacy and safety were assessed using intention-to-treat analysis. Between September 2019 and January 2022, 208 women were randomized into the levonorgestrel intrauterine system group (N=104) or the hysteroscopic niche resection group (N=104). At the 6-month follow-up, a 50% reduction in spotting had occurred in 78.4% (80/102) of women in the levonorgestrel intrauterine system group and in 73.1% (76/104) of women in the hysteroscopic niche resection group (relative risk, 1.07 [95% confidence interval, 0.92–1.25]; P =.370). Spotting decreased over time (P trend =.001), with a stronger reduction observed in the levonorgestrel intrauterine system group (P =.001). There was also a significant interaction between time and treatment (P =.007). From 9 months onward, a more significant reduction in spotting was observed in the levonorgestrel intrauterine system group than in the hysteroscopic niche resection group (9 months, 89.2% vs 72.1%; relative risk, 1.24 [95% confidence interval, 1.08–1.42]; 12 months, 90.2% vs 70.2%; relative risk, 1.29 [95% confidence interval, 1.12–1.48]). Moreover, compared with the hysteroscopic niche resection group, the levonorgestrel intrauterine system group had significantly fewer postmenstrual spotting days and total bleeding days from 6 months onward (all P <.001), and less pelvic pain from 3 months onward (all P <.010). No intervention-related complications were reported in any group. During follow-up, 11 (10.8%) women reported hormone-related side effects, and 2 women (2.0%) in the levonorgestrel intrauterine system group had spontaneous partial expulsion. Meanwhile, 3 unintended pregnancies were reported in the hysteroscopic niche resection group. In women with niche-related postmenstrual spotting, the levonorgestrel intrauterine system was not more effective than hysteroscopic niche resection in reducing the number of spotting days by at least 50% at 6 months. However, the levonorgestrel intrauterine system was superior in reducing spotting from 9 months onward, and it reduced the absolute number of spotting days from 6 months onward and pelvic pain from 3 months onward. Cervical cancer, one of the high-incidence female malignant tumors, has predominated in recent years. Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) is the main cause of cervical cancer. Studies have shown that infection with certain sexually transmitted disease (STD) pathogens increases the risk of persistent infection with HR-HPV and is a high-risk factor for cervical cancer. In the present study, cervical specimens were collected for Thinprep cytology test detection, while DNA of cervical cells was extracted for HPV genotyping and detection of 10 STD pathogens, including Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma urealyticum parvum (Uup)1, Uup3, Uup6, Uup14, Mycoplasma hominis (Mh), Mycoplasma genitalium (Mg) and herpes simplex virus II. Significant differences were observed between CT, Mh and Mg infections and HR-HPV infection (P<0.05). In addition, CT, Uup3, Uup6 and Mh infections were associated with HR-HPV infection (odds ratio >1; P<0.05). In the comparison of Uup3, Uup6 and Mg infections between the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) group and the control group, statistically significant differences were observed (P<0.05). In conclusion, the incidences of CT, Mh and Mg infections were similar with HR-HPV infection. CT, Uup6, Mh and Mg infections were risk factors for HR-HPV infection. Objectives:We examined the incidence trends of bladder and kidney cancers using a population-based cancer registration data. Methods:Age-standardized incidence rates were analyzed using data from the Shanghai Cancer Registry during 1973 to 2005. Annual percentage changes and 95% confidence intervals were calculated to evaluate the incidence changes. Age-period-cohort analysis was further implemented to assess the contributions of age, period and cohort effects to the trends using the intrinsic estimator method. Results:In total, 12,676 bladder and 5,811 kidney cancer patients were registered in urban Shanghai. The age-standardized rates of bladder cancer in males increased from 6.39 to 7.66 per 100,000, or 0.62% per year, whereas the rates in females increased from 1.95 to 2.09 per 100,000, or 0.33% per year. For kidney cancer, the age-standardized rates in males increased from 1.20 to 5.64 per 100,000, or 6.98% per year. Similarly in females, the rates increased from 0.85 to 3.33 per 100,000, or 5.93% per year. Age-period-cohort analysis showed increasing curves of age and period effects but generally decreasing cohort effects for bladder and kidney cancers. Conclusions:Our results show increasing incidence trends of bladder and kidney cancers in Chinese men and women, especially for kidney cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
