Abdulahad Nuri Effendi was born to a family of sheiks and scholars in Sivas in the late 17th century. As a child, he went to Istanbul, and was educated in external (zahiri) sciences, and then, completed his tasawwuf training under the guidance of his murshid Abdulmejid-i Sivasi, who was at the same time his maternal uncle, in the line of the Halwetiyye order. After his first irshad experience in Mythilene, he returned to Istanbul upon invitation by the sheikalislam, and became a postnishin in Mehmed Agha Tekke until his death. He also gave Friday preaches in big mosques in Istanbul. Nuri Effendi established a branch called "Sivassiye" within the Halwetiyye tasawwuf school, and he was prominent scholar and versatile poet with numerous works. Muhyiddin Ibn al-Arabi and Yunus Emre were very influential on his tasawwuf view. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
