Presents information on the follicle and seed morphology of 94 Hakea species in southwestern Australia and their relationship with serotiny. Ability to retain mature seeds on the plant for an extended period (serotiny) is characteristic of many species inhabiting fire-prone environments in Australia, South Africa and the U.S.; Relationship of follicle size and wall thickness with the ability of follicles to protect seeds from external heat; Analysis of data collected for the study using one-way analysis of variance with residual plots of each analysis examined for homogeneity of variances.
