The article examines the future prospects for arms control in the Korean Peninsula after the U.S.-Soviet understanding on the restructuring of European security and sweeping political changes in Eastern Europe in 1991. The Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are involved in arms-control negotiations, which are necessary to reduce political tensions in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia. The issues' implications for world politics and international relations are also cited.
