The article presents information on the clinical significance of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung infection. A study was conducted in which, NTM isolated from respiratory specimens, were reviewed. The methods involved in the study included identifying all NTM isolates from respiratory specimens at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea, recovered within a 2-year period. The clinical and radiological characteristics of the patients from whom the specimens were isolated were also reviewed. The results of the study showed that Mycobacterium avium complex and Mycobacterium abscessus were involved in NTM lung disease cases.
