Applied a procedure to assess measurement invariance across cultures developed by J. Steenkamp and H. Baumgartner (1998) to a scale to measure cognitive age using data collected in India (n=195), China (n=250), and Korea (n=251). Results from confirmatory factor analyses indicate that the technique provides a valuable tool to assess measurement invariance across cultures. (SLD)

This study investigated which age measures, independent or interdependent, were better for cross-cultural consumer research. Specifically, it assessed the fit between the 'actual' and 'ideal' self-concept model within the framework of self-construal theory by examining the actual and ideal self-attributed age identity across South Korea ( = 480), China ( = 207), and France ( = 338) using both independent and interdependent age identity scales. Multivariate analyses revealed differences for individuated self-schemata across the three countries for actual and ideal age self-construal, as well as for actual other-referent interdependent age self-schemata. However, the reverse occurred too: The ideal interdependent ages showed a lack of difference across the three different cultures. Overall, the results indicate that interdependent decade scales are better than independent age scales for cross-cultural consumer behavior studies. Though such scales are more complex, they are easy to translate and to administer, and simple to analyze and to interpret. Calliphorinae fly species are important indicators of the postmortem interval especially during early spring and late fall in Korea. Although nucleotide sequences of various Calliphorinae fly species are available, there has been no research on the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) nucleotide sequences of Korean Calliphorinae flies. Here, we report the full-length sequences of the COI gene of four Calliphorinae fly species collected in Korea (five individuals of Calliphora vicina, five Calliphora lata, four Triceratopyga calliphoroides and three Aldrichina grahami). Each COI gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction and directly sequenced and the resulting nucleotide sequences were aligned and analyzed by MEGA4 software. The results indicate that COI nucleotide sequences can be used to distinguish between these four species. Our phylogenetic result coincides with recent taxonomic views on the subfamily Calliphorinae in that the genera Aldrichina and Triceratopyga are nested within the genus Calliphora.
