The article discusses a study which modelled the suitable habitat for demersal marine species using multibeam sonar and presence-only approaches, particularly MAXENT. The model performance of the five demersal fish taxa in Discovery Bay, south-east Australia was assessed using kappa and area under curve (AUC) of the receiver operator characteristic. Findings demonstrated that Euclidean distance to nearest reef, HSI-b, rugosity and maximum curvature were the most important variables in determining suitable habitat for the five demersal fish taxa investigated.
