This article provides a first look at the Spanish media treatment of women running for first level public office. Based on framing theory, a methodological framework is presented that helps identify the resources used by journalists (the frame package) to represent Hillary Clinton candidacy at the Democratic Party presidential primaries. Coverage of the primary elections in the main Spanish newspapers is content-analyzed. Consistent with previous research, results show that gender played a relevant role in the press coverage of Clinton, thus suggesting that the media continues to use frames that "des-normalize" the participation of women in the political field.
