- Abstract
Purpose: With the growth of digital education, students increasingly interact in a variety of ways. The potential effects of these interactions on their learning process are not fully understood and the outcomes may depend on the tool used. This study explores the communication patterns and learning effectiveness developed by students using two basic synchronous and asynchronous communication tools in e-learning environments, specifically business simulation games. Design/methodology/approach: The authors conduct a quasi-experiment research with 478 online business students, 267 of whom used online discussion forums and 211 interacted via an instant messaging app. The application of learning analytics and text mining on natural language processing allows us to explore the student communication patterns with each of tools and their effectiveness in terms of learning. Findings: The results confirm the complementarity of the communication tools, asynchronous tools being especially the suitable for task-related communication and synchronous ones for speeding up and facilitating student social interactions. Originality/value: The main value of this research lies in the use of data analytics and text mining to access and analyse the content of student interactions to assess the learning process in greater depth, comparing synchronous and asynchronous learning modes, considering that little is known about the impact of online synchronous interaction or instant messaging, and even less about the different features, content and performance that emerge when these two learner interaction modalities are compared.

- Abstract
This study focuses on the experience of 20 Spanish faculty members who teach students with disabilities. We conducted semi-structured individual and group interviews, and analysed the data using an inductive system of categories and codes. The results of this work describe the difficulties that faculty members encountered when including students with disabilities, and how they attended, through reasonable adjustments, to the educational needs of their students. Their testimonies produced a profile of professionals who recognise their own shortcomings while valuing the actions that they have undertaken in order to meet the needs of their students. From their perspective, these actions were more closely linked to their own willingness and the students' efforts than to the training they had received on disability. In this sense, the present study shows that universities must provide more meaningful training in the field of disability and make firm institutional commitments to supporting their faculty members.

- Abstract
Recent reports confirm that the European Higher Education Area is conditioning the satisfaction of Spanish faculty members, resulting in a greater number of early retirements. The present study, framed within the context of the research, development and innovation project 'Fuga de Talentos: Un estudio sobre los motivos que han condicionado a profesores universitarios con experiencia a abandonar la profesión docente. Diseño de una propuesta (EDU2012-37068)', intends to understand the factors that influence their decision to retire early. This study is based on the mixed sequential explanatory strategy, using logistic regression analysis techniques with a sample of 311 faculty members. The results showed differences in the factors that influence the decision-making of active faculty members who are near (aged 51-60) or approaching (aged 61-65) retirement. Their professional satisfaction, feelings and the reasons for retiring influence their decision about retiring, explaining the culture of early retirement and the loss of human capital in Spanish universities.

- Abstract
The aim of this article is to analyze, from the academic staff's perspective, the training needs they require to provide an inclusive education to students with disability. Academics from a Spanish university participated in this research. We used a qualitative methodology. We collected the information through semi-structured interviews and open-ended written questionnaires. We analyzed data using an inductive system of categories and codes. Three topics were addressed in the results: profile of academics according to their previous training, the importance of such training for them and the reasons for training, and the contents considered essential for training. In the conclusions section, the need for universities to design and implement training policies was addressed. In addition, the participants stated that they would be more sensitive and better prepared if they received training on disability-related issues. A clear conclusion of this study is that inclusive universities require the involvement of everyone.

- Abstract
This article is based on a previous Spanish study, which aimed to analyze the existence of barriers and aid for 44 students with disabilities enrolled at University. A qualitative methodology was used to collect data. The results analyze both the support and the obstacles provided by new technologies, the opinion students have of technologies in education, and how they affect their academic lives. Some of the training requirements of the faculty members regarding the pedagogical use of these technologies are also described. The conclusions display the university as an institution with potential for improvement, where certain technological limitations persist, thus leading one to believe that as an institution, it must exercise self-criticism and implement measures to facilitate an inclusive education.

Many agricultural landscapes offer few resources for maintaining natural enemy populations and floral plantings have frequently been adopted to enhance biological pest control in crops. However, restored margins may harbour both pests and natural enemies. The aim was to compare the abundance of pests and natural enemies in three types of margins (unmanaged, sown herbaceous floral strips and shrubby hedgerows) as well as in adjacent melon fields. Besides, yield was compared among melon fields as way of testing the effect of the type of margin on biocontrol. The research was carried out during 2 years in twelve melon fields from four different locations in southern Spain. Arthropods were sampled periodically in margins and melon fields by visual inspections and Berlese extraction. Hedgerow and floral strips hosted higher numbers of both pests and predators than unmanaged margins. Besides, hedgerows had a similar or higher number of natural enemies than floral strips but lower number of pests. In just a few occasions, the type of margin had a significant effect on the abundance of pests and natural enemies in melon fields, but rarely there was consistency between the two growing seasons. No differences were found in yield. We hypothesised that the lack of association in the abundances of pests and natural enemies between margins and melon fields could be attributed to the overriding effects of the landscape and/or the internal population dynamics of arthropods in melon fields. Overall, shrubby hedgerows are more recommended than herbaceous floral strips. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MULTIPLE myeloma ,HEALTH insurance ,INSURANCE funding - Abstract
Objectives: To retrospectively analyze real‐world treatment patterns in patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) who initiated third‐line treatment in Europe. Methods: German and Italian administrative claims data were sourced from the German AOK PLUS health insurance fund and Italian local health units (2016–2020). Data for the United Kingdom (UK), France, and Spain were sourced from medical chart reviews (MCRs) from 2016 to 2018 (historical) and 2019 to 2021 (new) using electronic case report forms. Results: Across all countries, immunomodulatory imide drug (IMiD)‐based regimens were prominent in the third‐line setting. From 2016 to 2020, lenalidomide‐dexamethasone was most common in Italy (18.0%) and Germany (12.7%). From 2019 to 2021, the most common regimen was ixazomib‐lenalidomide‐dexamethasone (67.5%) in the UK, pomalidomide‐dexamethasone (17.1%) in France, and daratumumab‐bortezomib‐dexamethasone (15.0%) in Spain. In the historical data (2016–2018), third‐line lenalidomide‐ and pomalidomide‐dexamethasone doublet use across the UK (>47%), France (>46%), and Spain (>33%) was high. From historical to new, triplet use increased in Spain (>19% to >60%) as did anti‐CD38 agent use in France (15.1% to 51.9%) and Spain (19.7% to 42.1%). Conclusions: From 2016 to 2021, third‐line regimens were mostly IMiD based. The MCR data demonstrated evolving treatment choices from 2016 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021, providing insights into uptake of novel agents and current RRMM European clinical practice. - Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of how lecturers respond to students with disabilities, the initial question being: do lecturers aid or hinder students? Findings pertain to a broader research project employing a non-usual research methodology in higher education research and students with disabilities: the biographical-narrative methodology. The general aim is to analyse--by listening to the students themselves--barriers and support identified as affecting access, academic performance and overall perception of the higher education (HE) experience. This paper focuses only on the role that lecturers play in the inclusive education of students with disabilities. Unlike other international research, this paper has explored the barriers and support differentiating between five fields of knowledge: Health Sciences, Experimental Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering and Technology and Humanities. As mentioned above, the present paper focuses specifically on one of the objectives of our research project: making an analysis of lecturer-centred data obtained by means of biographical-narrative methodology, by the first time in this field. Three financial institutions granted separate loans to refinance unpaid debt owed by almost the same insolvent debtor. The new financing was guaranteed by the Spanish state, drawing to a line of credit exceptionally open in times of Covid-19. The financial lenders had old debts paid off with the new money. Upon subsequent insolvency proceedings of the debtor, a Companies Court has held that the payments made with the money from the new finance must be void, because the money received by the debtor and guaranteed by the state would have to have been distributed pari passu among the rest of the argues why this is so. The data retrieved from satellite imagery and ground-based photometers are the two main sources of information on light pollution and are thus the two main tools for tackling the problem of artificial light pollution at night (ALAN). While satellite data offer high spatial coverage, on the other hand, photometric data provide information with a higher degree of temporal resolution. Thus, studying the proper correlation between both sources will allow us to calibrate and integrate them to obtain data with both high temporal resolution and spatial coverage. For this purpose, more than 15,000 satellite measurements and 400,000 measurements from 72 photometers for the year 2022 were used. The photometers used were the Sky-Glow Wireless Autonomous Sensor (SG-WAS) and Telescope Encoder and Sky Sensor WIFI (TESS-W) types, located at different ground-based locations, mainly in Spain. These photometers have a spectral sensitivity closer to that of VIIRS than to the Sky Quality Meter (SQM). In this study, a good correlation of data from the Day–Night Band (DNB) from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) with a red photometric network between 19.41 mag/arcsec 2 and 21.12 mag/arcsec 2 was obtained. COVID-19 is a pandemic which has spread to more than 200 countries. Its high transmission rate makes it difficult to control. To date, no specific treatment has been found as a cure for the disease. Therefore, prediction of COVID-19 cases provides a useful insight to mitigate the disease. This study aims to model and predict COVID-19 cases. Eight countries: Italy, New Zealand, the USA, Brazil, India, Pakistan, Spain, and South Africa which are in different phases of COVID-19 distribution as well as in different socioeconomic and geographical characteristics were selected as test cases. The Alpha-Sutte Indicator approach was utilized as the modelling strategy. The capability of the approach in modelling COVID-19 cases over the ARIMA method was tested in the study. Data consist of accumulated COVID-19 cases present in the selected countries from the first day of the presence of cases to September 26, 2020. Ten percent of the data were used to validate the modelling approach. The analysis disclosed that the Alpha-Sutte modelling approach is appropriate in modelling cumulative COVID-19 cases over ARIMA by reporting 0.11%, 0.33%, 0.08%, 0.72%, 0.12%, 0.03%, 1.28%, and 0.08% of the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) for the USA, Brazil, Italy, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Spain, and South Africa, respectively. Differences between forecasted and real cases of COVID-19 in the validation set were tested using the paired t -test. The differences were not statistically significant, revealing the effectiveness of the modelling approach. Thus, predictions were generated using the Alpha-Sutte approach for each country. Therefore, the Alpha-Sutte method can be recommended for short-term forecasting of cumulative COVID-19 incidences. The authorities in the health care sector and other administrators may use the predictions to control and manage the COVID-19 cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WIND power , *ENERGY policy , *ENERGY economics , *RENEWABLE energy sources , *PROBLEM solving - Abstract
Offshore wind energy generation has experienced an important growth in the last five years, reaching currently an installed capacity of almost 8000 MW. The most important references in this type of technology are Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Germany and United Kingdom. In Spain, previsions for technology, have been set at around 750 MW of installed power during the period 2011–2020. However, Spanish coastal features, social opposition to installations near the coast and lack of a stable regulatory environment guaranteeing the investments are factors which are restraining the development of this technology. This paper presents a brief review of the state of the art of offshore wind technology and it describes the most frequently used types of turbines, transmission systems and support structures in Europe. It also presents the current situation and the expected growth of offshore wind power facilities, introducing the characteristics of the operational – and under construction – windfarms. Finally, it analyses particular problems and solutions for its development in Spain which can be extrapolated to countries with similar circumstances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BANKRUPTCY ,COLLATERAL security ,FOREIGN investments - Abstract
Successive amendments to the Spanish Insolvency Act, carried out by the Spanish Government and Parliament over 2014 and 2015, as well as new judicial interpretations in insolvency-related matters, have led to a state of scarce regulatory consistency and interpretative doubts that affect, among others, the rules concerning secured creditors upon insolvency. In this article, we offer a selection of legal issues related to this class of creditors--pre-insolvency stays, distinction between "security" and "claim" in terms of priority under financial collateral arrangements, "value " of the security in the new insolvency and pre-insolvency systems, pledges on future receivables, and recent developments in the Supreme Court's case law on avoidance Law--as an up-to-date guide which should be of interest to foreign investors facing the risk of insolvency of companies in Spain. This paper examines austerity politics in the health systems of Italy and Spain. Although they were modeled after the Beveridgean National Health Service (NHS), Italy's Servizio Sanitario Nazionale and Spain's Sistema Nacional de Salud operate within a distinctly Southern European political economy. These welfare states contain both occupation-based and universalistic programs. Cutbacks in the universalistic health sector, therefore, are not straightforward. For example, user fees are not characteristic of the NHS, yet Italian authorities have raised them substantially. On the other hand, Spanish politicians appear loath to raising fees. Comparing the two countries shows that these austerity measures are the product of two historical factors: 1) the extent to which public infrastructure and public financing existed in the health systems which preceded the contemporary systems, and 2) the programmatic agendas of the parties which implemented the subsequent reforms. The development of molecular methods is becoming a promising field in the analysis of parasite fauna in wildlife species. This is especially useful in the case of parasite species where developmental larval stages are difficult to assess using standard methods. In this study we screened for the presence of parasitic nematodes infecting lacertid lizards from the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic islands using nematode-specific 18S ribosomal RNA gene primers on host tissue samples. Sequencing of positive samples revealed the presence of different genera of nematodes. The detection of Strongyloides, a monoxenous genus reported for the first time in Podarcis lilfordi is probably the result of the amplification of larval stages present in the host circulatory system. Two spirurid nematodes, Synhimantus and a new unidentified clade, were also found, suggesting that reptiles might be paratenic hosts of several spirurid species. This study demonstrates the benefits of using specific molecular markers on tissue samples to identify infecting larval stages of nematodes, otherwise difficult to assess using traditional screening methods. Resistance to malathion has been reported in field populations of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), in areas of Spain where an intensive use of this insecticide was maintained for several years. The main goal of this study was to determine whether resistance to malathion confers cross-resistance to different types of insecticides. Susceptibility bioassays showed that the malathion-resistant W-4Km strain (176-fold more resistant to malathion than the susceptible C strain) has moderate levels of cross-resistance (three- to 16-fold) to other organophosphates (trichlorphon, diazinon, phosmet and methyl-chlorpyrifos), the carbamate carbaryl, the pyrethroid lambda-cyhalothrin, and the benzoylphenylurea derivative lufenuron, whereas cross-resistance to spinosad was below two-fold. The W-4Km strain was selected with lambda-cyhalothrin to establish the lambda-cyhalothrin-resistant W-1Kλ strain (35-fold resistant to lambda-cyhalothrin). The synergistic activity of the esterase inhibitor DEF with lambda-cyhalothrin and the increase in esterase activity in the W-1Kλ strain suggests that esterases may be involved in the development of resistance to this insecticide. Our results showed that resistance to malathion may confer some degree of cross-resistance to insecticides currently approved for the control of Mediterranean fruit fly in citrus crops (lambda-cyhalothrin, lufenuron, and methy|-chlorpyrifos). Especially relevant is the case of lambda-cyhalothrin, because we have shown that resistance to this insecticide can rapidly evolve to levels that may compromise its effectiveness in the field. This article studies the type of leadership that managers are currently exercising in the Catalan health system in Catalonia. A questionnaire (MQL-5X) was sent to 120 people occupying management positions in healthcare centers and hospitals as well as 14 others who also hold such positions in these healthcare centers and hospitals, were interviewed. The mixed methods research design attests that the Catalan health system is managed through a structure of simultaneous transformational and transactional leadership. However, the efficacy of this system is conditioned purely by the communicative competence that a manager may or may not possess, as the system itself makes no effort to encourage transformational leadership. Transformation leadership inspires positive change, conveys a clear vision and enhances morale, motivation and job performance. It galvanizes a team into changing their expectations and perceptions and motivates them to work towards common goals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary To assess the characteristics of an ELISA test for the diagnosis of human pulmonary dirofilariasis, we studied the sera of 24 subjects with other helmintoses and of 37 patients suffering from non-parasitic focal lung diseases, comparing them with negative and positive sera. ELISA and Western blot with complete somatic antigen and ELISA with protein Di22 (specifically recognized in cases of lung dirofilariasis) were performed. With ELISA SA the false positive rate was 25% in cases with other parasitoses and 30% in cases with focal lung diseases. ELISA Di22 decreases this positivity levels. Only 2 cases with visceral larva migrans (8.3%) and a case with lung nodules metastatic from renal adenocarcinoma (2.7%) were positive. ELISA Di22 therefore greatly decreases the false positive rate of ELISA SA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Introduction: Obesity, defined as an excess of total body fat, is a matter of concern all over the world, and its prevalence is still increasing among elderly people. Objectives: To examine whether sedentary behaviour (hours sitting per day) is associated with higher risk of central obesity, overweight-obesity and overfat in a representative sample of non-institutionalized Spanish elderly population and if so, whether hours walking per day modified this association. Study design: A cross-sectional study in a sample of 3136 people ≥65 years of age. Main outcomes measures: Anthropometric measurements were obtained using standardized techniques and equipment. Active and sedentary behaviours were recorded by questionnaire. Results: For both men and women, the higher prevalence of overweight-obesity, central obesity and overfat was found in those who spent sitting more than 4h per day and walk less than 1h, compared with those who spent sitting less than 4h per day and walk more than 1h (all p <0.001, except for central obesity in women). In men, more than 4h sitting per day was associated with 1.7-fold higher odds of having central obesity compared with those sitting less than 4h per day (p <0.01). In women, this sedentary behaviour increased the risk of overweight-obesity and overfat by 1.5 and 1.4, respectively (p <0.01). Age or time spent walking did not significantly change these results. Conclusion: Sitting time increases the risk of overweight-obesity and overfat in women and the risk of central obesity in men, independently of walking time. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

An analysis of pollen grains loaded and transported by the Balearic lizard, Podarcis lilfordi, at three coastal islets of Menorca (Balearic Islands, Spain)was performed. We studied 228 individual lizards from spring and summer,1998, recording 323,986 pollen grains belonging to 35 different plant species. As a consequence of its foraging behavior, the Balearic lizard is able to load large quantities of pollen. In Aire Island pollen load was higher in adult females than males. P. lilfordi is an important pollen loader of some plant species such as Pistacia lentiscus, Crithmum maritimum, Alliumampeloprasum, Carlina corymbosa, and Pancratium maritimum. The role ofP. lilfordi as the main pollinator has been previously demonstrated only for the sea fern, C. maritimum. However, results reported here indicate that the Balearic lizard can play an important role in the reproductive success of other plant species on coastal islets off the main island of Menorca.
