The article presents a national multicenter study that evaluates the prevalence of HIV-1 drug resistance in patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) in June 2004 in France and Switzerland. The study found resistance to at least 1 antiretroviral drug in approximately 85% cases as interpreted by the Agence Nationale de Recherches sur le SIDA et les Hépatites Virales (ANRS) and Stanford algorithms. The observe pattern of resistance are linked to a long-lasting history of ART.
