Researchers at Taipei Medical University in New Taipei, Taiwan have conducted a study on pancreatic cancer and its resistance to gemcitabine, a commonly used therapeutic drug. The study found that adenylosuccinate lyase (ADSL), an enzyme involved in purine biosynthesis, is associated with gemcitabine resistance. The researchers also discovered that ADSL represses the expression of CARD-recruited membrane-associated protein 3 (Carma3), leading to increased resistance to gemcitabine. The study suggests that ADSL could be a potential therapeutic target for pancreatic cancer and that the Nrf2/ADSL/Carma3 pathway may have therapeutic value for pancreatic cancer with acquired resistance to gemcitabine.
